Comments: My grandfather was in the 245th in 1952. His full name was Henry Jackson Greer, but everyone called him “Cork”. We have all of his photographs from Korea and precious few stories of his service. We lost him last summer and all his records were lost in the St. Louis fire in the 70s.

The family would appreciate any photographs or stories from those he served with. I am compiling an album to preserve what we can of his military service.

Comments: Hello,

I'm trying to find more info on my Great Grandfather, William Phillips. He was a Pennsylvania National Guardsman who served in the 45th Infantry Division during the Korean War and based on items I was given by my Great Grandmother upon her passing and seeing a certificate of having graduated his MOS school I believe he served in the 245th Tank Battalion as a tank mechanic. He got out of the Army sometime before Vietnam but after the Cuban Missile Crisis as a Sergeant First Class.

Researching him has been very hard and my family knows probably even less than I do as he rarely talked about it. My great grandmother was convinced he had earned 2 bronze stars but I believe she confused those with the 2 bronze campaign stars on the Korean Service Medal that were in the box of his stuff. He unfortunately passed away in February of 1997 in Scranton, PA when I was too young to ask him about these kinds of things but being in the military myself I feel it is my duty to remember him and learn as much as I can. I will try to dig out photos from my parents storage unit and ask my great aunts if they know anything as I believe some of them have some of his papers from the Army.

If anyone has any info, knew him, knows someone who did, or knows how to better research this, pleas reach out to me, I'd really appreciate it.

-Patrick

Comments: I have my father's shadowbox with his uniform, his picture, patches and some pictures taken in Korea. In addition, I have many more of the pictures he took in Korea, in Japan on leave and of his unit. I am honored to have these but I want to know of a place I can leave them when I need to let them go. My brother is not really interested and it would wind up in the trash when he dies. I want to honor my father's service and not let this end when I do. He served Juen 1952 to June 1953 and his name is Paul E. White from Chippewa Falls, WI.

Comments: Looking for any information on my Dad who served from
Feb-1953 to Dec-1953 in Company B as a tank
commander. Something happened during his service
that he refused to speak about, but my uncle (his
brother) claims that he was captured with his unit
and treated very poorly by the Chinese. Not sure if
this is correct information since my Dad passed away
in 1993, but I really need to know what happened to
him. Seems all the archives from this period were
destroyed during a fire, so I'm looking for anything
about his service. Thanks to all our service men and
women who serve our country heroically.

loader on the unit commander's tank and served in the
Korean war.

We tried to get his records from the the VA but we
were told that they had burnt up in the fire [1971 or
so in St. Louis].

I want to honor my father-in-law's service and give
more history for his grandchildren. My husband [his
son] served in the USMC during the Gulf War and I
would like to surprise him with this info as his
father talked little about his military experience.

If anyone could help me with proof of his service...
Copies from the book of othe 245th or even stories
from fellow soldiers would be great.

He is having trouble with proof of his injuries from the war which were treated in a medic tent and becoming 100% service connected. This means so much to him as he will be turning 80 yrs. old in December. He has trouble remembering names and seems like nicknames were used during that time. Many blessings to all who have served our country.

Comments: We have a guy (Edwin Milton Leeper) in town who was a personnel clerk with CCo 245th Tank Bn, 45 Inf Div, Korea. He keeps seeking stories in the media about his Purple Heart from Korea. He will however tell different stories of how he got his Purple Heart. Story one is he was shot in the jaw at Heartbreak Ridge June 1953 and the other story is artillery shrapnel to his toe. He recent told the newspaper he was shot in the toe and spent 2.5 months in a hospital in Japan recovering. Your site shows him returned to duty. He ahs admitted to issuing himself an Air Medal an Bronze Star as a personnel clerk later in VN. He now tells people he was Green Beret and Airborne (and has later in writing admitted to being a wannabee). He just recently wore a woman's dress and poured cow's blood on "his" Purple Heart as an art project. Please help us wit the truth. thanks.

His handwritten service records listed "2450 Tank Battalion" but I can't find any records of that group. I think he may have meant this one-- the 245th. Dad was born and raised in Vernon, Texas. He graduated from Texas A and M with a 2nd Lt. commission in 1951 and was sent to Korea a few months later. He served in a tank unit until 1952, then was shipped out to Ft. Comments: My Father Floyd L. Stewart passed away 1999 and was a Tank Com in the 245th. He was called back home sometime may to july 1953 for emergency leave as our home was wiped out by a tornado in Georgia. In fact I owe my existence to that tornado. Family lore has it that when he returned to Korea something catastrophic had happened to the 245th in the period of his absense.
I am curious to find out more about the 245th during that period and anyone that might remember my father. From what I gathered he ended up running a NCO club for the remainder of the war and was a member of the Color Guard that marched in New York at the end of the conflict.
