Comments: I was In the Colo National Guard,193 HV Tank Bat in High School and our unit was activated in 1950.the unit was made up of vets and students from Pueblo,Colorado Springs,Canon City.We trained at Ft Hood TX on the latest Tanks, M-46.I went to FT Knox Armored School and then we were moved to Camp Polk, LA.Our unit was disbanded and half sent to West Germany with the rest sent to Korea. We landed at Inchone and trucked to the front lines, dropped off after midnight and told to find E company. The 2nd DIV of the US Armed Forces had just been wiped out by North Korea so I found E CO and to my surprise that there was only 5 men left and I was the ranking Noncom. I was handed an M1 for protection and spent the rest of the night learning to dis-assemble the M1. Tankers can not use a rifle in the close quarters of a Tank.and all of my training was with HV weapons, 50 cal,90mm,colt 45s.Now I knew that I was going to live in a hole in the ground, like the SO Koreans.

Keywords: My 3 years of Tank training came in handy when I went looking for a transfer to the Armored Bat.The 38th REG Tank CO. was given the old obsolete M4s from the World WarII battles in the Islands, rusty, bullet holes and steel tracks, we had to replace them with rubber blocks tracks inorder to maneuver in the ICE and snow.[-32 d].We supported the 2nd DIV when they were up on the front lines and when they went in reserve,we supported the SO. Koreans because they did not have any Armored units. My platoon was made up of only three Tank out of 5 because of lack of spare parts and trained personnel. We spent most of our time with the SO Koreans, going behind enemy lines to rescure their patrols and bring back the wounded.
It was a shame to get almost to China/North Korea, never lost a battle, and loose the war at the PEACE TABLE because of Politics. General McCarther said :there is no substitute for Victory.[Unconditional Surrender]. How come we did not learn from the Japan war and rebuild of their country?

Keywords: I am trying to put together a collection of patches, uniforms and awards for public displays. I am looking for donations of anything worn by a solidier during the Korean War. If any armed forces member can help out it would be appreciated. I would also like to keep the items donated associated with the soldier that wore it so I may contact you for certain information so I may type up a history. Please pass this information along to others in the armed forces.

Thank you Mike Boggs
