Below you will find a letter of commendation of our work in Korea. Outfit returned to Camp McGill, Japan.

TO: Commanding Officer
2d Amphibious Support Brigade
APO 59
1. On completion of its highly successful operation of the ports of Suyong and Ulsan, Korea, during the period of 31 July 1953 to 15 Dec. 1953, by your command, I commend the 2d Amphibious Support Brigade for the exemplary manner in which it carried out its missions, which were essential to the logistical support operations in Korea.
2. Missions assigned to the 2d Amphibious Support Brigade included complete operation of the ports of Suyong and Ulsan for the handling of bulk cargoes, i.e., coal, lumber and drummed petroleum products, which had not previously been handled through these ports. Your command took the initiative to organize, train and familiarize its port operating agencies with existing directives and policies and the implementations necessary to carry out this new operation. The tonnage discharge rates established by your command in face of adverse conditions exceeded 1,000 long tons per vessel per day. In addition to operating these ports, your command conducted valuable surveys of beaches of the So. Korean coastline, which will be vital to any future operations in this area.
3. Your command contributed substantially to the achievement of the mission of this command.
4. I congratulate you upon the manner in which these operations and surveys were accomplished and request that you express my appreciation to the officers and men of your command.
