Comments: My father will soon be 82. He only told me the funny stories about the Korean War as I grew up and said he had been with UN peacekeeping. I never knew what it was really like for Dad until one day when I was decades old, and I realized he was telling a story about Korea with fear and anxiety in his voice and face. More stories have been coming, since.

The Korean civilians that worked for the Army (2nd Indianhead Division) had been good friends and helpful to my father. The one he speaks of most often, however, is Wo-Sung, originally from North Korea, who crawled out into a fierce battle alone with a stretcher to rescue an injured U.S. captain. (This happened before the arrival of the Hawaii boys in July 1951.) Wo-Sung, a former math teacher in Japan, could speak Korean and English; after this act of bravery, the captain arranged for him to become a translator attached to the Division.

After my father returned home to Hawaii, he never saw his Korean friends again. If anyone remembers my Dad -- especially Wo-Sung or his family -- I'd like to hear from you. My Dad's name is Eddie Kong. Thank you, and aloha.

He grew up on a mountain in West Virginia and was the oldest of 13 children. My father took over the role of eldest son when Kenneth died. We do not have very many pictures of him but treasure those we do. I am trying to gather together photos and stories of Kenneth from those who knew him. I would greatly appreciate anyone who served with him and knew him personally to share with us their memories of Uncle Kenneth. He was never married and it is our duty to preserve his memory for future generations so that we never forget that he gave all. If anyone happens to have any photos of him, copies would be wonderful to have. Again, thank you all for serving! May God bless you and keep you.

My Dad would never talk about his service in Korea. A few weeks before he died at age 76 in August 2007, he finally broke down and told me about a tragic event where his best buddy was killed by a fellow Company member (not with friendly fire).

Comments: To those who may have met or knew my father,

I just returned from the "states" where I, along with my siblings, both
his families, and countless friends just buried my Dad: John Milton
Seybert Jr.. As some of you know Bud suffered a major heart attack
back in 2000; the prognosis at that time was not good, but my pop
was a fighter and he took nearly 9 more years.

On Tuesday last, the 17th of February Pop's heart gave up that struggle
and he drew his last breath holding my sister Michelle's hand, that was
at 15:09 CST.

John Bud Seybert Jr. was born on the 17th of December 1928 in
Granite City, IL. He graduated from Granite City High School in 1945,
before securing employment as a machinist at the American Steel
Foundry in West Granite where he met Pete Condis, who later married
my Dad's oldest sister Ellen.

In 1950 Bud was drafted into the United States Army's, 23rd Infantry,
where he served with distinction in Korea as a Staff Sergeant. He saw
combat at "Bloody Ridge" and "Heart Break Ridge", where he was
wounded and won the Purple Heart.

After surviving the war with an honorable discharge, Bud returned to
Granite City where he met and married Beverly Hall in 1955. Fathering
five children in 24 years of marriage.

Bud graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1956
with a Bachelor's degree in Geology (a passion he pursued all his life)
and went on to employment at the Defensive Mapping Agency as a
cartographer, a position he held for 30 years, until he retired in 1986.

For many years Bud, "ran the desk", managed Bowland Bowling Lanes
out on route 203 as a second job and a social outlet for his gregarious
personality.

In 1988, Bud married Margaret Dorch in a ceremony in Las Vegas, NV.
They have resided in Granite City, IL. for the last 20 years, where they
were active in many veterans organizations, including VFW, American
Legion and DAV Post 53, where Bud served as President until his death.
He was a hero, my Pop! And he will be sorely missed by me, my
siblings, both his families, and countless friends.

Comments: According to his medical records, my father, Robert J Powers, was with Raider Plt., 23rd Inf Reg, when he was wounded near Chorwon, North Korea on Sept. 27, 1952. Just looking for anyone that might have known him. I know the chances are slim that I`ll find anybody that knew him, but it`s worth a chance.
Thank you.

Comments: I am doing family research on my Uncle Chester Stephenson who was killed in Changnyong Sept. 1, 1950. I have not been able to find much on his service and death. I am just looking for anyone who may have known him, while in Korea, and knows the circumstances of his death. He was 23rd. IR, 2nd ID. I am the only family member to attempt to chronicle his military service. Any info would be helpful. Please email.
Thanks,
Clyde H (Herbie) Ball
