Comments: FRED LEE KREEGER, JR. Buzzy passed away in his sleep at hospice
in Winston-Salem, NC on April 25, 2013. He was 84. Buzzy was
always so proud of his service with the Gypsies. His grandson
married my daughter. Since I spent 26 years as an Army
paratrooper, most of it in airborne units, and I was in Korea
for a year in the early 1970s, Buzzy and I hit it off right
away. May I ask for some help? His widow, Ruth Kreeger, cannot
find a DD-214, and she is trying to determine what awards and
decorations Buzzy was entitled to. We've submitted a request to
the National Personnel Records Center, but they tell us that it
appears that Buzzy's records may have been destroyed in the fire
back in 1973. So, I am left with trying to help Ruth reconstruct
enough information to give the NPRC so that they can do further
research. If anyone out there has any assignment orders, TDY
orders, or any other documents that may include Buzzy Kreeger's
name, we would be eternally grateful for a copy. My mailing

I was contacted by 21st TCS Mess Sargent of problems with the walk-in-refrigerator at your squadron mess. Problem was found to be the engine that powered the rig. A new engine was located and furnished by your outfit and I installed it for you. Everything was again ship-shape. I was offered and accepted privileges to your mess hall. Said priviledge was much appreciated because of your access to fresh eggs, fruit, veggies, milk and meat that were not available at K-16. Many thanks to all.

We joined the 21st Troop Carrier Squadron in Fukuoka Air Base and then dispatched to North Korea to help evacuate US Marines from Yon Po. After that we and the 21st were relocated to Tachikawa Air Base, and later on to Ashya Air Base in Japan, and we maintained a presense at Kimpo in Korea as well. Since we were totally integrated with the 21st, I was appointed to act as liaison and worked with the 21st's Commanding Officer Loftus. (His first name excapes me). Comments: I was with the 21TCS/6461stTCS in 1952-1953 in Korea (K-16) as a air crew member on the C-47 aircraft. I had to return to the ZI in June of 1953 on emergency leave and did not return to Korea. I should have been awarded the Air Medal (I flew 42 C1 missions) but never received it. Anyone have any ideas?

Comments: Most of my time was spent in Kyushu. I flew missions into K-2 and K-16.
Our squardron consisted of C-47's, but in late 1954 coverted over to C-199's.
Our Gooney Birds were send down to Indo China. Roomer has it, that many of them were burned on the field. (sabotaged)
The flight nurses were angeles from heaven, and served with honor. Our wonder boys looked up to them like the girl they left at home. The nursed gave them hope that they would be returning home.
I am proud to have served with the Gypsies.
