unsure when he left her. I believe she was his first assignment.I think he was assigned as a coxswain's mate, however I am unsure of what division he served in and am curious of what his duties were. He had told me at one time he had something to do with one of the 40mm AA mounts when under way, but during landing operations was coxswain in a LCVP. Any one that knew him is welcome to contact me. My son is asking questions I have no real answers to. Dad passed away in 1991 after an accident in the home.

Comments: One shipmate I remember a shipmate very well from Benton Arkinsas HA Steele.Some of the places the Renville went to was Japan home port Yakuska.
BU we also went to Korea Puson Inchon Korea and Wonson where we dropped off troops that we picked up from Puson. After we left Korea tHE Renville had a short trip to Hong Kong then to Subic Bay Philippine Islands. Then on trip back to Japan we stopped off at Oakinawa.Then back to Japan and Back to theU.S.A. With a stop at Hawaii.

Comments: I was on the shop when she was commissioned, we were stationed in Seattle, Washington, tokk the ship in Astoria, Oregon, and were scheduled to make the invasion of Iwo Jima, the ship struck a log on the way to Long Beach California and we had to Dry Dock there to repair the Screw. We all suffered from Pollywog to Shellback on the trip to Guadalcanal to pick up the 3rd Marines to make the invasion of Okinawa. Renville made that landing at Yellow Beach 3. Put the Marines ashore in the 3rd wave. It was something. Joe Parish. 45-46

Comments: My dad served on the Renville in 1952-54. I believe he was a navigator. He never talked much about his experiences, and mom doesn't have too many tales to tell. He died in 1988. It would be great for my brothers and me if anyone out there had any stories. I have a son and daughter who are both in the Navy Junior ROTC through their high school and it would be a great thrill for them as well. My son's planning to take the ASVAB
and do his enlistment (as an E-3) in the Air Force
any day now, as he'll graduate this year. So it would mean a lot to us if anyone has any memories. Thanks!

Comments: My dad was on the Renville from 51 - 55. His name was Bill Copeland (Jr.). He boxed on the Renville, and operated landing crafts in the Korean War.
He passed away from cancer a few years ago. I found some pictures of him and some of his pals on the ship. I would like to talk to some one who served with him and knew him. It would be great if someone could help me identify some of the people in the pictures.
