Comments: My dad was BM3 Donald Ray Chance who served aboard the USS George Clymer from November 22, 1948 October 24, 1952. He passed away on October 31, 1985, and I know nothing about him or his Naval service. He was onboard the ship while it sat anchored in San Pedro Harbor on April 24, 1952 because that was the day I was born. If anyone knew him and can remember anything about him, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Unfortunately he passed away many years ago and his family really doesn't know anything about his Navy Service. If anyone knew Donald Chance and could provide any information or sea stories about him, his family would be very appreciative.

My recollection of the Clymer was that the 02 deck was made of wood, there was no air conditioning, and because we had a commodore aboard, we had daily GQ during which we had to go into a very hot hold in full gear. The trip took 42 days. It wasn't a pleasant experience. Slept on deck because it was too hot in the troop compartment.
