Comments: I rode her in Jan 1951 from Oakland to Hawaii on my assignment to Hickam AFB. I was detailed on the ship to the break out crew. Scaling the ladders with the goods was quite trying and challenging. Fortunately, we were allowed to set up cots on the hatch cover outside the cold locker, a big improvement over the other passenger racks. We always had access to the locker and had goodies whenever we wanted. The weather was quite rough, even the sailors were sick; I had no problems. Getting off the ship, I learns what sea legs are, the ground rolled all day long. Returning to the states 2 years later, I rode her sister ship, the Jefferson. That time, I volunteered for the same job. It was a pleasant trip.

Comments: HI HAL, I WAS ABOARD THE USS PRESIDENT JACKSON, APA 18, INVASION OF INCHON KOREA WE PICKED UP THE 1ST MARINE DIVISION IN SAN DIEGO CALIF., SAILED 14 AUGUST 1950, FOR JAPAN, ARRIVING KOBE JAPAN, 29 AUGUST TO PREPARE FOR THE INVASION AT INCHON, WE LEFT KOBE 11 SEPT.
