Comments: My father, Leonardo E. Bongolan, joined the US Navy in the Philippines on or around 1945 and went to Boot Camp in San Diego, California.
He was on the USS Henrico during the Korean War. I think he was stationed in Hawaii ( probably Honolulu ).
When I was young he mentioned he sang at a military radio station in Hawaii. If there is a picture of and an archive of the radio broadcast when he sang, that would be great to have it. He also mentioned that he was the private steward for the ships captain ( it would be nice to know the Captain’s name ). He got injured while in Korea and was medically discharged when the ship returned to Hawaii.

Boatswain's Mate Third Class Kenneth J. Cooke (NSN : 3645125) United States Navy, for
conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while attached to U.S.S.
Henrico (APA-45) as Coxswain of an assault boat during the amphibious assault against Inchon on 15, September 1950, in an area subjected to enemy gunfire. After successfully discharging
his troops and after backing clear of the beach, he observed that one or more of a small group
of Marines near the seawall under heavy rifle and machine gun fire had been wounded. Without
regard for personal danger, he again beached his boat, took on board the wounded Marine and
transported him to safety and medical care. His heroic actions above and beyond the call of duty
and his outstanding courage were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States
Naval Service.

We were told that he died in Korea due to a broken neck. That's about all we know. I would love to correspond with anyone that knew him.
My Regards, Rose Daniels,

Went back into the NAVY in December 1954 and retired 1973. Other ships I was on, in order, were the USS Piedmont AD-17, USS Isabel DD-869 and USS FDR CVA-42.
I'd also like to hear from other shipmates who may have possibly served with me. I retired as a Master Chief (HTCM) E-9 in June 1973

whole milk to thousands of "guests" on their way to Korea and back to States!!! Welcome Aboard!
