I would love to hear from anyone who might have crossed paths with him. We have many slides of his time in China (and maybe Korea). I wish we knew more. He passed away in 1997. Please contact me if you remember Jerry Gossett, BM1.

Comments: I just found this website. Have my sister helping
me. We were looking into filing new claim for agent
orange. I was diagnosed years ago for it and never
received any word on it. Found new info on internet
as of Aug. 30, 2011 on Veterans Adminstration
website, that more ships names were added to the
list. I have had
triple by-pass surgery, nerve damage and knee
replacement. Found Dowd and the mention of Weedman on
the blog. Would be happy to hear from some of my old
buddies; especially if any of you have had any
problems with the agent orange claims; anything would
be appreciated. My sister is the smart one with
computers; she's helping me. I was a BM 3rd Class,
Boat Captain and in charge of the boat deck, in
charge of wheel house for watches, lead helmsman for
refueling. I knew Weedman and Dowd. Haven't been
able to find the Diachenko listed as being a ship
that was listed as one for the Agent Orange
in Viet Nam; "Go figure that one"!!!!! Wasn't on that
updated list either, that I mentioned above. Hope to
hear from someone soon. God Bless to all my
shipmates!

Comments: I served 2 wks ACDU for training as a Seaman Recruit aboard USS Diachenko in 1948, out of San Diego. I will never forget hanging over the side in a Bo'sn chair chipping paint, and the 3rd class PO saying, "If I hear that chip hammer stop...I'll let go!" Later, when I passed by and peeked into the the porthole of the Officer's Mess, I decided "that" should be my destiny...not chipping paint! That year Fleet Exams got me appointed to USNA. So, I thank APD-123, her crew, and that Petty Officer for a great 26 year Navy Career. I would love to hear from anyone who was aboard during that training cruise.
