Comments: 74 B Falls Terrace My dad Philip O'Rourke was in the Navy at the end of the 1940's
and served through the Korean War.He worked in the Engineer Division.We have some
pics,of him aboard the USS Begor October 7,1949,and they are all dressed in their
naval white uniforms.I also have a pic of a group of naval officers dressed in
their white uniforms,in front of palm trees,in Mango Point Bay,Subic
,Philippenes..There is one last pic of the USS Begor ADP 127,taken during the
Korean War,as their is another ship being blown up alongside the USS Begor.My
dad,Philip O'Rourke,joined the Navy when he was 19 years old.He stayed with a
fellow naval officer,after the war in Montana,right before he met my mother in
Connecticut.My dad was from Columbus,Ohio.He became an attorney,working for the
IRS,and was killed in a plane crash when he was only 37 yrs old.My mother wanted
to try to find the man my dad had spent time with in Montana.He had such a great
time there on his vacation their,and was driving back to Ohio after that trip,when
she met him.If this gentleman is still alive,we would love to hear from him,as we
miss our father dearly,any memories would be a treasure to us!!Thank you.

SHIP WAS LAYNCHED 25,MAY,1944 AS;USS BEGOR(DE-711),RUDDERROW CLASS DESTROYER ESCORT.THEN ON 17,JULY,
1944,SHE WAS CHANGED TO TO A CROSLEY CLASS FAST
TRANSPORT,AND DESIGNATED USS BEGOR(APD-127).SHE WAS
COMMISSIONED 14,MARCH,1945,WITH A DISPLACEMENT OF
1,450 TONS,AND A COMPLEMENT OF 204(12 OFFICERS--192
ENLISTED).WITH LCDR.B.T.BROOKS,USNR IN COMMAND SHE
WENT TO THE PACIFIC 3RD.FLEET TO OCCUPY JAPAN.------

DURING THE KOREAN WAR,THE USS BEGOR(APD-127)SERVED TWO
TOURS OF DUTY,UNDER THE COMMAND OF;SKIPPER,WILLIAM A.
WALKER III---SKIPPER ARCHIE C.KUNTZE,AND SKIPPER GEORGE
HAMILTION.THE SHIPS FIRST KOREAN TOUR,(DEC.1950-SEPT.
1951),SHE PARTICIPATED IN THE HUNGNAM MAJOR EVACUATION,LATE DEC.1950,SHIPLOADS OF MEN,AND MATERIAL
WERE EVACUATED FROM HUNGNAM HARBOR,AND ABOUT 105,000
SOLDIERS,AND MARINES,98,000 CIVILIANS,17,500 VEHICLES,
AND 350,000 TONS OF SUPPLIES WERE SHIPPED TO PUSAN IN
ORDERLY FASHION. HUNGNAM WAS DEMOLISHED,UDT-3 HAD HELP
FROM APD-127,IN THAT OPERATION.THE SHIP ALSO WAS IN
(SPECIAL OPERATIONS),R and D MISSIONS. ON 7,APRIL,1951,
AS PART OF TASK-FORCE-74,IN SUCCESSFUL DESTRUCTIVE
RAIDS,UTILIZING 250 COMMANDOS OF THE "41ST.INDEPENDENT
ROYAL MARINES"--------ON THE SHIPS 2ND. KOREAN WAR
TOUR,(14,NOV.1952-12,AUG.1953),SHE WAS INVOLVED IN
UDT MISSIONS,AND POST ARMISTICE POW EXCHANGE.------
THE SHIP WAS DECOMMISSIONED 20,JULY,1959,AND LAID IN
THE RESERVE FLEET,SHE WAS COMMISSIONED AGAIN IN 1961,
THE SHIP WAS DECOMMISSIONED AGAIN ON 1,JAN.1969,AND
REDESIGNATED TO;AMPHIBIOUS TRANSPORT SMALL(LPR-127).
THE SHIP WAS STRUCK FROM NVRON 15,MAY,1975,AND ON
6,DEC.1976 WAS SOLD FOR SCRAPPING,FOR $60,000,TO
NATIONAL MEDAL and STEEL CORP.,TERMINAL ISLAND,CA.-----
