Comments: My father served with the 101st Airborne during WWII. He served with the 89th Tank Battalion Co. B during Korean War (1950-1951). He received the Purple Heart w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Silver Star w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star and the Korean Service Medal w/Silver Star. My father died in 1970 while I was serving during the Vietnam War. I have been researching my father's military history as we never got to talk about the wars. Anyone who knew him could be a big help in my coming to terms with my father and beyond.

Comments: While on a recon patrol we were engaged by the North Koreans and a fire fight ensued requiring artillery support, however, artillery units were otherwise being used, so, the M4 that was assigned to our hill laid down enough fire with their 76mm tank gun to allow us to make a strategic withdrawal. That tank crews action saved many lives that day and I for one am grateful to them. God bless them all. Sgt Hart was the tank commander and if you're out there Sgt. Hart, I salute you.

Wonder if anyone has any information on that unit and maybe knew him. He was a tank driver and gunner in an M-48. He told me a story of one guy in his unit from Alabama that drank so much of the local booze and he died sitting in the driver's seat of his tank.

Comments: Looking for people who might have known my father,
Franklin A. Rich.

I knew he fought in Korea, but just found out
today that he participated in the Heartbreak Ridge
battle. Daddy passed away in 1989, and he never
spoke much about the war, even when we asked him
about it.

I finally found the letters, and I have been trying to put them in
chronological order so i can sort of track his whereabouts. He landed in
Korea on October 18 or 19, 1951. He was in a reserve unit. The return
address for his first station was:
Sgt Franklin A Rich NG24007219
Hg and Su. Co. 89th Med. Tank. Bn.
A.P.O. 301
Then from about November until around April 15th 1952 (or maybe a few weeks later), his address
was:

SFC Franklin A Rich NG24007219
35th tank company A.P.O. 25.
