Comments: My maternal grandfather was Sgt Rafael Peregrin Ortiz-Ortiz from Puerto Nuevo, PR.
He was in the 65th Regiment, 2nd Battalion Headquarters - He was KIA on April
26th, 1951. I'm looking for photos or anyone with any sort of recollection (I know
this is a stretch after all these years) who may recall my grandfather or his Battalion
/ Company etc.
I'm also wondering if there is a way to get more detail as to the events on April 26,
1951. There appears to have been quite a few soldiers KIA on that day, and I'm
wondering if there are any sort of documents or archives where I could look up
military activities / battles on that day.
Thank you.

Comments: Dear Sirs, Let me begin by thanking EVERYONE of you for your
service and your sacrifice. My great-uncle Cpl BASILIO ROMAN
SANTOS from Peñuelas Puerto Rico served with the 65th in
Korea. He came back a very different person and the family
never liked to mention the war to him. Though I understood and
appreciate their intention, the result was that we never
honored his service and now, after his death, no one even knows
ANY details of his days with the 65th. We do not know what
unit he was in, when he arrived at Korea, where he fought, the
circumstances behind his discharge, etc. Only thing I have is
the information on his grave. I searched through the existing
US ARMY records and could not find anything either. I was also
told that his record may have been lost in a fire some years
ago. Anyway, simple truth is we know nothing and I want to
change that. If ANYONE knows anything, please contact me.
Thank you and God Bless you all.

Comments: My maternal grandfather achieved the rank of Master
Sergeant and retired shortly after the Korean
Conflict. He served in WWII and he was awarded a
Silver Star medal after he saved several officers from
a grenade attack. He was wounded in this attack and
the scars would be visible, hence, he was also awarded
the Purple Heart Medal.
My grandafather was a very quiet man and he never
shared is war experiences with us. However, about 8
years ago I found an old polaroid photograph of my
grandfather being awarded a medal in Korean by non
other than General MacArthur. This photograph was
very important, nonetheless, same was lost during my
divorce.
I have been trying to either find or get a copy of
this award ceremony photograph with no luck. I even
contacted the Veteran Administration and the local
Korean War Veteran Association. However, sad to say,
the records for the Puertorrican Veterans seem to be
totally misplaced. I do not understand why no one
kept a good record of the multiple sacrifices made by
our soldiers. But of course, this is an area that
causes me a great deal of pain and anguish.
Nevertheless, if you or your relative served in the 65
Infantery in Korea and have a copy of this awards
ceremony, please contact me at my e-mail
Thanks for your help in this matter.

Comments: Also it has come to my attention that the military for years and to this day continues to deny that there was "agent orange" used in korea. they are of the mind set that they only want to acknowledge its use in the vietnam war. If anyone has any fact based info, please respond. God bless
Keywords: My name is Dennis i am writing on behalf of my father Martin Laboy-Santiago. He was a member of the 65th Regiment F Company. I/we are looking for Veterens who served in Company F of the now great 65th regiment. i have been fighting for 8 years for my dad's proper credit and honor. i hve made some progress but have far to go. i am trying to get my dad his honor and proper respect while he is still with me. we are all aware of the prejudices and racism that existed, we are also aware of the lost records of many veterans due to the fire in the records building in the 70's. my dad has been denied many honors and medals i have been able to get him several of them, but i am ultimately seeking to get him his purple heart which he was overlooked and thus denied becasue of this same racism, etc. We are also looking for Freddy morales who was with Company C of the 65th, He is a frined of my dad who my dad still cries for to this day in search of him who mysteriously disapeared in action , despite reuesting immediate info during the war no valid explanation was ever given to my dad. He suffers from severe PTSD amongst other ailments. If there is anyone out there that has any info or knowledge. It wouldbe greatly appreciated.

Comments: My name is Felipe Mendez, like my father and uncles, I too served in the military. I retired after 30+ years of service. I am looking for information that can help me find out my father's and uncles unit during their tour of duty with the 65th INF. His name was Jose A. mendez, my uncles Federico, Miguel, reymundo and alejo mendez. They all served together during the Korean war and then Vietnam. I would like to get a link where names of all the "Borinqunos" can be found. thanks for this great website.
