Comments: I've got an old canteen that my grandmother had when she had an antique shop here in Northern California about 30-40 years ago. It had a gold wedding ring attached and the canteen is inscribed. On the front says Korea, March 1952, Captain and under that is San Goo but not sure if this is a name or place?, Sniper Ridge, and on the back it says 224th I.F. "Sons of Hell". There is a word above this which has been mostly worn off but the last letters are I think "lc. e" Maybe was a name and it was probably a 3 or 4 letter word that ends in lc. It doesn't seem to be like any US canteen that I've ever seen. Has a wooden stopper and canvass straps. Anyone have any info on anything about Sniper Ridge or maybe this canteen? Just curious if this guy returned home or not since it has a wedding ring on it.

We would like the former members of the 40th ID to know that we have established a archives here at the museum. We are making a major effort to preserved the photos, records, and papers of the members of the division and make them available to historians, researchers, and family members.

The current 40th ID HQ has already transferred all of their photos from WWII, the official 40th Signal Co combat camera set as well as other collections of the Division's history.

If you can get this out to your members, we would appreciate it.

Like many, he rarely spoke of his time in the service. In his entire life, I think he mentioned 5 stories to me, and 1 was from Boot Camp in Alabama and 1 from when he returned home.

My Father passed away four years ago Monday. Before he died a few of his Army buddies came by to see him and others attended the funeral.

I have all of his information he had on the war and have gained a tremendous respect for those who served.
I have done a lot of reading and recently put together a photo album with the picture from the war.

I wanted to thank all of you for not only what you did for my father, but for the whole country.

I wanted to form a group on FaceBook where we could post pictures and make comments to share information on the war.

I would love to hear from any of you who served in the war with him.

Dad always looked forward to the reunions and I know he will be there in spirit with all of you.

Thank you so much.

Sincerly,

Gary Patton

I was recently going through some of his things (he passed in 1990) and found many pictures of his time at Camp Cooke. Fortunately, he did a good job of labeling his pictures. I have some pictures taken in Feb 51 of Ed Shilo (Norwood MA), Tex Lenard, Al Stearns, Ed Ronach, Mike Russitti, Sgt Kaye, Tom Shea, Pete Rappaha, and Nick Interdernado. No guarentees on the spellings! Also there are various other base photos (barracks, chapel, 40th Inf Div Sign, etc.)

If you're interested in seeing them, please let me know.

Thanks

Comments: I'm trying to put together a shadowbox of my husband's late grandfather from his time in the Army. CPL Robert "Bob" Coleman was assigned to active duty from 18 Nov 1952 to 17 Nov 1954. My husband and I believe he went to basic at Ft. Jackson. In Korea, he served with Co. H, 224th Inf. Regt., 40th Inf. Div. We have copies of letters home and pictures of him and his buddies, including Don Cook from Darlington, PA, and a man named Bloom, among others. His ship passed by Japan on the way to Korea. I'm having a hard time finding the patches he wore throughout his time in the Army and was wondering if anyone knew of a place I could order them. I've scoured military shops in the Ft. Bragg area as well as e-bay and am having a hard time finding any. I am able to identify 2 of the 3 he once wore on his uniform (the Ball of Fire of the 40th Inf. Div. and the 224th crest.) The patch I can't identify must have been the patch from his place of separation, Ft. George Meade, as it is currently on his uniform. It is a red shield with a gold border, 2 gold A's, and a gold tree-looking thing or lightning bolt down the middle of the A's. I'm also looking for the blue "Korea" tab that he wore above the Ball of Fire patch, which I think I've found on e-bay, in a picture. Any help would be very appreciated! My husband was very close with his grandfather, and I'd very much like to complete the shadowbox for him. Also, if anyone knew Bob and has any stories, my husband and I, along with his family, would love to hear them. Thank you for any help!

Comments: We are looking for anyone who served with my Uncle Charlie. He was known for his singing ability, his outgoingness, and for walking on his hands. He was from the Portland, Oregon area. We are doing a Memorial DVD on him and would love to hear from anyone who served with him or knew him. He served as a Medic/Sergeant in E Company. His last name may have been pronounced as BigHouse.
