Comments: Served on USS Union AKA106 October 1960 to August 1962, M div., than served at the US Navel Station Bermuda Navy 138, air sea rescue until July 1964, sure missed the Union, she got to a lot of West Pac ports during that time. You never forget your 1st duty Station. Stayed in the reserves until 1995, 4 years Seabees, went to the National Guard heavy armor until 1991, Had my first Heart problem and was released from duty 1995 on disability, would have stayed for ever. I keep looking for a reunion, missed one, I was working in Sadie Araba at the time.

Comments: I would like to hear from any one who remembers being on the Union from 1952 to 1953. I remember a lot of faces from the Ist and 2nd Divisions. I remember some
training operations with jarheads off of Coronado in San Diego. I remember being tied up in port at San Diego. I remeber many guys on the ship who were very
good sailors and were kind to new guys like me. I remeber bein transferred to Radio shack and standing watches there while at sea.

I recall him mentioning serving on the USS Union AKA 106 early in the Korean War and then transferring to the USS Oglethorpe in 1952. I was on the ship's fastpitch baseball team and played games in Hong Kong (where we were station ship) for the whole month of December and all of our Japan stops. I was so young then but we had a pitcher named Coon or Koon who could throw a softball underhand faster than most could pitch overhand.
