Comments: Upon graduating Class A Radio/Electronics school in Bainbridge, Md. in December 1954 I was assigned to join the Warrick as a RM3. During the following one plus years we sailed out of Oakland, CA to Japan with numerous ports in between.
After an accident aboard ship I spent 72 days in the Oakland Naval Hospital avoiding the amputation of my hand due to a major infection. From there to Treasure Island for a few days and then one more Pacific trip on the Uvalde before forfilling my two years of active duty.
A great lifes experience!

Comments: My Grandfather died in 1986 but I would like to know more about his service days, I have pictures, discharge papers, and a paper indicating his crossing the equator, Although I think some of his other records and things were lost in a house fire years back. My Dad Was also a Navy man, serving on the Uss. Constellation (CV-64) in the Vietnam era. I am interested in Naval History and especially the history of My Family.
I would greatly appreciate any info that you can dig up for me. If it would help....I think My grandfather served two different tours but Im not sure. Thank you and Im looking forward to hearing from you.

My father, Joseph Warren McLain, served on the Uvalde from 1942-1945. While looking through his navy papers, etc, I found his honorable discharge. Also with that another paper-- Notice of Separation from US Naval Service. In the remarks section of that paper it says American Theater, Philippine Liberation Asiatic Pacific, Good Conduct and Victory Ribbon - 3 bronze stars. Could you tell me about the victory ribbon and the bronze stars? Also if any one remembers him I would love to hear from you.

Comments: My father, Stefan "Ski" Kawecki served as a DC-1 during the Pacific War and Korean conflict. He was very artistic, and everyone was his friend. He died when I was six, and I have no other relatives to ask. I know he joined the Navy at Long Beach, and he and my mother were stationed for two years in Yokuska, Japan from '57-'59. After I was born, he was stationed at Moffet Field in Mountain View, California. I believe he was on three different ships during the war, and one of them the USS Uvalde. It's very important for me to find out if he was indeed on the Uvalde, as I am now working in Uvalde, Texas and would love to know if the connection truly exists. Can anyone help me find this information?
