Comments: Would love to hear any stories about Charles W. McConnell . He was in service on the USS Titania from about 1944- 1946 . we think. He use to tell a story , about his bugle getting toss over board -- because he played a wake up call ( it's time to get up , IT'S TIME TO GET UP in the morning) ,This irritated his crew members so they got rid of the bugle.

Comments: 'Operation Blue Hearts', was the first U.N. amphibious
landing in the Korean War. It was at Pohang, South
Korea, on 18,July 1950, by the U.S.Army's First
Cavalry Division. The village of Pohang, 15,000
inhabitants, lay 70 miles north of Pusan. It had a
useable airfield, fair anchorages, and a 1,000 yard
strip of sandy beach for a landing. With a shortage of
suitable amphibious assult ships, USS Titania-AKA-13
(Capt.Frank D. Giambattista, USN) and USS Oglethorpe-
AKA-100(Capt.Paul D. Heerbrandt,USN) were rushed to
Yokosuka,Japan Naval Base, and fitted with hastily
pre-fabricated boat skids, boat servicing gear, towing
bridles, and boat and vehicle slings. In addition to
getting the so-called AKA's ready, six LSU's were
reactivated also at Yokosuka. These six LSU ex-
Japanese vessels, under command of Capt.Norman W.
Sears,USN, would perform the lion's share of the
unloading work at Pohang. For personnel; boat crews,
hatch crews, and communication personnel, they were
rushed to Yokosuka by air from the Amphibious Base at
Coronado, California. The Assault Force was underway
from the Yokosuka area on 15,July 1950. The Attack
Force (90) was under the command of Rear Admiral James
H. Doyle,USN. USS Titania-AKA-13 was in Transport
Group 90.2, under the command of Capt.V.R. Roane,USN.
Pohang was still in friendly hands, and the amphibious
assault became an unopposed administrative landing at
the docks instead of the beaches. The USS Titania-AKA
-13, was in the Wonsan Landing, 15,Nov.1950, in
Transport Group 90.2, 90.21,Transport Division Able,
commanded by Capt.S.G. Kelly,USN.

Comments: I am looking for information for a crewman by the name of R. D. Sexton who served aboard the USS Titania during WII (?) or Korean area of operations.
His son, R. D. Sexton, Jr., does not have a computer and is seeking any information concerning his father. I have offered to search available history, crew or anyone knowledgeable of the ships area of service, duties, personnel, history, etc.
R. D. "Dave" Sexton, Jr. did not know his father very well,I was told, as R.D. Sexton,Sr. was supposedly killed in action when Dave Jr. was 8 years old.
I would like to pass on any information anyone has to Dave, Jr. who lives in Grants Pass, Oregon.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I'm nearing 50 now, with a fine son of my own, whose paternal grandfather was in the Marines and at Chosen Reservoir during the Korean War. If John Houston is still alive and wants to know us, that would be great; if not, we'd sure appreciate any information. I've heard he was a talented pianist and singer; he might be happy to know his daughter has been a performing songwriter, and his grandson is a joy.
Warmly, and thanks to all for your service to this country.
