Comments: I am looking for Larry Lee Fowler, born August 26, 1936, from Detroit, Michigan. His mother's name is Rose. He served with the K-9 Corps in the 58th Ordinance, 8th Army from 1955 to 1957, at Sihung. He returned to BuPyung, or Ascom City, near Seoul, in 1958 and departed to the U.S. August 1959.

He met my mother, Kimiko, and had two children, my older sister Rose, and me, who he named Cindy. If you have any information regarding by biological father, it would be of great interest to me. Thank you.

Comments: Comments: I'm looking for my uncle - my Mom's younger brother. His name is Yu Kun Hwa, born July 24, 1939. Yu is sometimes spelled Ryu. He was adopted by SSG Fred Thompson around 1955. Kun Hwa was 16 at that time and worked as a shoe shine boy. We think Fred Thompson arrived at the 304th in 1954. He adopted my uncle to save him. The last thing we knew was that they moved to Stockbridge Georgia (7531 Hwy 42 Rt?), then possibly on to Miami. Kun Hwa MAY have enlisted into the U.S. Army around 1961 but got into some trouble. We received news that he may have been arrested around August 1961 in either Georgia or Miami, Florida. We've been looking for him ever since. One big problem is that we don't know if he changed his name, possibly to an American one. We just miss our loved one and would be eternally grateful for any leads or information. Comments: I was w/the 599th Engr Base Depot in Korea in 1948. In Jan 49 we relocated to Japan and I was asgd to the Trans Sec HQ 8th Army. When 8A rerlocated to Korea, I remained in Japan with the Trans Sec, HQ Japan Log Comd. In Oct 51 I was rotated to the States but in Mar 52 I was back in Japan with Trans Sec HQ AFFE. In Jun 53 I took a Civ Svc job and remained in the FE until Jul 80 and then off to Germany Retired in Dec 89 in Frankfurt. Like to get in touch w/anyone I served with.

Comments: I was looking for some buddies that were with me in Headquarters Company 8th Army , Security Guards, Seoul Korea 1952-53. I was at Panmunjom April 52-August 52 and then in Seoul until rotation in June 53. Some of the guys were Red Calebs from Kentucky, Gene Monk from California, Al Eisen from New York, Pat Patterson from Ohio, Woody Woodlawn from Baltimore. We had a good group of guys and a pretty good softball team to pass the time. I was from Pennsylvania but now live in Oklahoma. During our guard duty the slicky boys kept us on our toes.

offers in the way of tours or visits. I'm told that
there is a bus that takes tourists on a day trip
to the DMZ. Is that correct?

I was a T-5 with the 207th MP Co. working in
the Provost Marshal's office in downtown
Seoul in 1947/48. This will be my first visit to
Seoul since then.

Comments: I remember being billeted at some 500-year old Chinese or Korean Palace not too far from the University of Seoul. There were big gates at the entrance and we lived inside in little rooms with sliding doors that had small paper window frames, something akin to French doors. The floor was made of mud and there was a place underneath to build a fire for warmth in the winter. There were two bunks to a room but I had the room to myself most of the time. Underneath the bed, there lived a big rat in a hole in the corner of the room. I stuffed the hole with newspaper but I could hear him chewing on it all night long. In the morning, I was all covered with flea bites. I tried DTD powder on the inside of my sleeping bag but nothing seemed to keep the fleas away.

Our mess hall was about 2 miles away from our "barracks" and we usually jumped in the back of a military vehicle headed that way at chow time. Since I was working odd hours, I often had to walk to the mess hall and when I got there the only food left was crackers and oleo and water to eat. We were feeding about 250 ROK soldiers and we had to share our food with them. They stood guard with us and they were pretty good guys, so I do not blame them for the food shortage.

I worked rotating 8-hour shifts as a high speed radio operator. We worked out of red brick buildings at Seoul University. It was mostly just doing monitoring work that was very boring.

I was transferred to Seoul from Taegu in Sep. 1951 and in October/November I got Manchurian Fever (remember the flea bites?) and was sent immediately to the hospital. I had to leave all of my personal belongings behind and never saw them again. After several weeks at the 121st Evacuation Hospital in Yongdongpo(sp.?), I was evacuated to an army hospital in Tokyo. The next 21 months were spent in Tokyo, Yokohama, Sendai, Sapporo and Hakodate. Then in October 1953, I returned to the States for discharge.

I wish that I could remember the name of my 8th Army Signal Units units in both Taegu and Seoul but time has erased all memory of the names of both men and the units I served with.

Maybe someone else has a better recollection than I.

Comments: I spent two years in the Occupation of Japan from 1948 to 1950 and was shipped to Korea about a week after the war broke out. While in Japan I was assigned to the 10th Information and Historical Section but they needed my draftsman and mapmaking service in the G2-G3 Section so in June of 50...I was transfered and went to Korea with that unit. We landed ata Teague about 1 July or so.
I was just wondering if anyone might remember me....some names I recall are MSG Legacy, Cpl Crolius from NJ, Col Bullock,
I transfered to the 23rd RCT of the 2d Div in January of 51 until my rotation in August of that year.
