Comments: I was stationed at Brooks AFB,TX from 1955-1959, with
the Air Evacuation Sq. There was an F51 outfit there
until about 1957 and then I believe it was deactivated
or reassigned to Kelly AFB. I believe that this might
have been the 182nd FBS that had seen duty in Korea.
Does anyone out there have info on this squadron? It
sticks in my mind that the tail of the aircraft had a
black and white checkerboard marking. Not sure, though.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Comments: Dad was Exec (I believe) and then Squadron Cmdr. after then-Major Witt was shot down. I'm doing a family project and would very much like to have any recollections--anecdotes, personal stories, specific information on combat missions (with approx. date and location, if known), etc.--also photos of Japan and Korea at that time. Basically, I'd like anything that would flesh out the story of a guy who never said much. I got some very helpful information along these lines from Col. Dick Mischke, and it occurred to me that this website might be a good way to contact others. If you hate to write, give me a phone number and I'll call you. Thanks for anything you can tell me!
