Dealt with bedcheck Charlie a few times too, for the first few months. My job was to drive to the bomb dump with a GMC 6X6 which had a hoist built onto the bed, load up a truck full of the bombs needed for that particular mission, drive them back to the flight line, and help to hang them on the plane's wings. Scary work for a 19 year old greenie airman who had never been out of PA before!. I joined in 52 to be able to fly,but discovered sinus trouble took that out of the picture, and the AF needed bodies for support,so after basic at Sampson AFB,NY,I was shipped directly to Korea (on a boat,of all things-disgusting to an AF man!) I am 83 now,and memory is fading, but I remember a Don Conklin from CT who was a good buddy. I have tried to contact him,but no joy there--if anyone reading this remembers that name,I would appreciate an email response. Thanks

Comments: Wondering if there is anyone out there that spent time at Osan AB Korea during
1957 to February 1958 with the 2nd Communications Squadron. Division was
attached to our Squadron designation making it 2nd Communications Squadron
Division. I don't remember the reason for this.
I went to Ground Radio Relay Carrier (AFSC 304x0B) technical school at Scott AFB
Illinois and was transferred to K55 Osan AB Korea in February 1957. We were
trained in the latest Ground Radio Relay Carrier which at that time was the
AN/TCC series with about a week or two of familiarization with the WWII vintage
CF1 voice, CF2 teletype, and CF3 repeaters.
At Osan we found that the equipment being used was the WWII vintage and had to
learn fast. Our duty station was at the base of Hill 180 close to the BX and
theater as I recall. Our site was designated Main Carrier which maintained voice
and teletype circuits throughout South Korea, from S. Korea to Japan, and the
local K55 base switchboard.
The original designation for our site may have been Comet Forward as I vaguely
recall that name. Our VHF back-up was an Army site on Hill 170 with the call sign
Bucket Alpha and our cable was maintained by 8th Army Long lines.
In the spring when the monsoon rains hit it got very interesting at Main Carrier
as the Mukden and Osan cables became like water conduits (circuit outages all up
and down S. Korea).
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who experienced Osan around that time
frame.

Our job, from our very-permanent location just north of UiJingBu on the MSR from Seoul to PyongYang, was to close the bridge should the balloon go up. It never did. Easy duty, mostly, although our RoK neighbors did shoot at us from time to time for rice-wine-time entertainment. Don't make a UN incident over it, ordered our Bn Co, LtC Ford P Fuller jr. Nor were we to complain about vehicle immobility ( more than 50% deadlined, usually) because US units were at the bottom of the parts-re-supply list after the UN units all got theirs and after the Koreans had stolen most of such items off the slow trains north from Pusan anyway.

Comments: I am looking for my African American grandfather who was a helicopter pilot stationed in South Korea between 1956-1964, I am actually unsure of the date but my mother was born in 1959. Her mother was Junghee Kang and my mother's name is Miok. Her father was in the US Air Force. Regardless of the culture at the time I would really like to find him. I am making a family tree for my daughter and this is a huge part of our family history. I am still searching for Junghee Kang as she gave my mother up when my mom was a child.

Comments: My father served in the US Army in communications in the Korean DMZ from 1952-1953. His name is Wallace John Ford, Jr. from California. He went by the nickname Wally. I am wanting any information, photos or friends from his time in Korea. I am his eldest child and my siblings and I know very little of his time that he served there. We believe his heroic work in Korea should be shared within his family. Thank you.

Comments: Looking for anyone who served with my Father, Gordon Mustard or Gordie Mustard. Yes a name you cannot forget.
Please help me to find any of his tank buddies. I have yet to get out of him exactly what his unit or company was. I will get there soon I hope. He has a couple of pictures that I would love to share. Plus to hear stories of how full of mischief he was when he was young would be an added bouns.
Thank you to all for all you have done for us God Bless and I look forward to speaking to you soon.
Sincerely,
Gordon Mustard's daughter
