Comments: 1st Recon, 9th Cavalry, 1st Cav Div. Stationed north of Imjin River, Koreafor 13 months. Dates in Korea were from 1959 till 1961, shipped back to Ft. Knox, Kentucky in the states, was discharged February 1962. I enlisted at age 18 on November 12, 1958 went to basic training at Ft. Jackson South Carolina, after graduation was ordered to Fort Knox, Kentucky for Armor Training, graduated advanced training as Armor Crew Chief of M48 Tank. Was then ordered to Korea late 1959. I currently have health issues due to exposure to Asbestos with diagnosis of bi-lateral pleural plaques commonly referred to as Asbestosis which makes me high risk to have mesothelioma asbestos poisoning Cancer, and also have had Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma now in remission since 2005. I’ve submitted claims to VA for asbestos exposure and possible agent orange or other defoliants that was sprayed by South Korean soldiers around our camp and along DMZ, we inhaled the dust when it was dry and wind blew, and then when it rained we absorbed those same defoliants into our feet as they were water logged. No kidding in 1943, the U.S. Army Chemical Corps, stationed at Camp Dietrich, now known as Fort Dietrich, Frederick, Md had formulated the five (5) rainbow herbicides that were known as Agent Blue, Agent Purple, Agent Orange, Agent White, Agent Pink, these were rumored to have been sent immediately to US troops in the South Pacific WW II to be sprayed on Islands that were occupied by Japanese forces. Yes our gov’t created these rainbow herbicides without regard to dangers or ill health effects that might be caused by these herbicides exposures to our service men and women since WWII. If you have any information about 1st Recon, 9th Cav, 1st Cav Div, what base or camp they were assigned to please contact me, I’m currently 79.6 years old and don’t know how much time I have left but would like any information about our unit, or if you too have similar health problems with Asbestos exposure and exposure at Korean Peninsula DMZ with tactical herbicides exposure from 1959 to 1961.

Comments: I know that was many years ago. I arrived in Korea January 1955,and was assigned to the 25th Division Band, and was transferred to the 24th almost immediately.

The 24th was stationed in Munsani Korea. I rotated back to the USA IN April 1956.Our first band director was, Chief Warrant Officer Hugh W Frost.

I left Korea as Supply Sargent for the band. Made great friends with Gary Lyons and Gerry Jordan, but lost contact when I rotated back. Both Gary and Gerry were excellent musicians. Gary wrote music ,and Gerry had his expertise as a swing band leader.

If anyone out there can give me any info on the above two or any one that would have been in the band the same time as I was would be greatly appreciated.

I Was known as Big Ben and played the largest instrument, but was actually the smallest one in the band. Please contact me thru my e-mail address.

Would love to hear anything.

The camp Im researching is about 1.5 miles north of Munsan and 2.5 miles south of Freedom Bridge. If facing Freedom Bridge it would be on your right, if facing Munsan it would be on your left. Its next to the village of Unchon-Ni.

Prior to 1960 it was probably known as Camp F7. I dont know which units were stationed there between 1954 and 1958 but Im trying find out. I was stationed there in 1971-72 with the 1/17 Infantry when it was called Camp MacKenzie.

Any help would be appreciated. I have topo maps of the area showing the camp location as well as GPS coordinates and military map coordinates if it would help.

Comments: got to k55 in apriil 57 and was sent out on may 1 57 thro inchon to a small island n w (yeonpyeongdo) of inchon. usaf had a small uhf-vhf radio relay site there with communication between k 55 and k 53. was a very interesting experience there for me. we had kmc's for the securety for the complete island. It was a small fishing viliage hamlet with several church orphanages there. in 2010 the north Koreans shelled this island. the usaf relay site was long gone by this time. anyone out there that spent time there? Comments: Arrived by ship at Pusan August of 1958, transported by train to Uijongbu and
served until August of 1959 with Co B, before it was moved to Clinard's Corner. I
remember Debbies Hideaway, Lt. Col. Rienzi leading us on marches with his stagger
stick. I had a lineman MOS, but chose to work as a mechanic in the motor pool. I
worked along side of a guy named Joe Orozco from Merced, CA and another guy named
______Perez from Texas. There also was a guy named Gonzalez. He and I used to make
tape recordings of rhythm and blues songs. The village was close by and I spent a
few nights slipping and falling in the rice paddies.

Keywords: I shipped out of Seattle, WA in August of '58 on the USS Frederick Funston. We
dropped some AF guys in the Aleutian Islands, then stopped in Yokohama, Japan and
unloaded some Marines. We then went on to Pusan, (Busan) then went by train on to
Uijongbu. When I finished my tour of duty, I flew out of Osan AFB in August of '59
