Comments: Hello,
I am trying to contact Louis Diggs. I heard that he served with my grandfather PFC. William Chambers. My father (William’s son) told me that his medals and ribbons got stolen and the records burned in a warehouse fire in Tennessee. I have a picture of an old news paper. I just wanted to know some info on why he was awarded the medals. He got a commendation ribbon, distinguished unit emblem, and the UN and Korean Service ribbons. I heard that he drove a heavy transport truck into the fire fight and also jumped on the back of a humvee and used the .50 cal. If you recall anything could you please contact me or reply on here. Thank you for your time and service.

Comments: I remember my unit, the 726th Truck Company was part of the 231st
Truck Battalion of the Maryland National Guard. My company, the
726th was the first US National Guard unit to arrive in Korea to support
the War. We were separated from our battalion (231st). Our history
goes back to 1879 when the unit was known as the Monumental City
Guard from Baltimore, MD. We were accepted into the MD National
Guard as a "Separate" Company in 1882, and was ordered to active
duty during the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, and
was the only unit from the MD National Guard ordered to active duty to
support the Korean War. After many years, because no one knew of
the history of our unit, I published a book on the history of the 231st
several years ago, with oral histories of several of the Korean War
veterans. My book is titled "The Forgotten Road Warriors." I left the
726th in North Korea and enlisted in the Regular Army where I
remained until 1970 when I retired. I shall never forget how hard and
difficult it was to drive those old 2 1/2 ton 6x6 trucks over those
dangerous mountains and through those extremely cold winters
hauling troops, food, ammo, napalm, etc. The only units I recalled we
hauled were the 1st Calvary and the 24th Infantry Regiment. You can
see parts of my book on my website which is www.louisdiggs.com.
Keywords: It has been so long since being in Korea the first time, I simply no longer
can recall myu life there very much during 1950 to 1952. I did return to
Korea a couple more times in my military career, 1962 and 1969. In 1962
I served in Seould with the US Army Procurement Agency, and in 1969 I
served on Embassy Duty with the Korea Military Advisory Group (KMAG)
working with the 25th ROC Division in Vietnam.

Comments: I am looking for any information on Pfc William (Bill) Cahmbers. He was an Irish Immegrant who served in the 726th Trans. Co. during the korean war. His sister (my mother) and his surviving children would like to know a little more about him. He died when they were very young and his sister has very little info on his service time.

Comments: Trying to locate any members of the 726th Transportation Truck Company, a unit of the Maryland National Guard, which was the first United States National Guard unit to set foot in Korea on December 31, 1950 to support the war. The unit was under the 70th Transportation Truck Battalion all during the war. I am writing a book on the history of this unit and would love to be in contact with anyone that served with the unit, especially in Korea.
