Unit: 46TH TRANS GP AND 55TH AVIATION BN

Service or Relationship: Army Veteran

Comments: I was with the 46th Trans Gp in Korea in 1963 and into 1964. The 46th was disbanded and we were transferred just down the street to the 55th Aviation Bn. We were just outside ASCOM, as it was called. I am wondering is anyone else remembers this or was stationed there at the time. I have been back to Korea several times and I believe that area is called Market City or something like that. The little village was called sin-chon.

Keywords: Looking for Bob Nelson(California) or Jim Mund (Florida). And I hope James Daugherty reads this. He lived in Council Bluffs, Ia.

Comments: Comments: In researching my dads Korea history, I thought he was assigned to a Helicopter Unit in Pusan. My dad, Bruce Mante, from the Bronx, NY, was a Jeep and Duece mechanic who later managed the PX in Pusan. I figured this out by reading family letters. I have some old Black and White photos of Dad and some of his buddies in Korea, some of them taken from a helicopter.

I now realize that he was probably assigned to the 49th Transport Company, as he was a mechanic. I actually still have his shop manuals for the Willys Jeep and the 2 1/2 ton Duece as well as his military driving manual.
