Comments: I served in South Korea in C company under the command of Captain Luck.

My brother-in-law served in this unit also, but was in South Korea during the conflict, approximately 1953.

Also, I just learned that Floye H Abrams of Columbia, SC, also served in the 44 Engr Bn in approximately and received a Bronze Star.

Please submit any information regarding these two gentlemen.

Thank you

Comments: Hello!

I'm looking for any connections to my Grandfather, Boyd Brooks, or a place we can buy a year book from 1967-68. He was at Camp Casey for a while but was moved around to a few different camps during his time.

He recently passed and we are just trying to find ways to feel closer/remember all the things about him!

Comments: To all veterans of the 44th Engineer Battalion (Construction) who served during the period 1967-1968. The Army has no record of anyone who was stationed at FT Beavers ( then Camp Beavers) and is denying benefits to those who were exposed to the herbicide agent orange during that period. I was a platoon leader of the Earth Moving Platoon, Company C during that period and have helped several of the members of that period. If you have any paperwork or pictures that can definitively put the 44th at Ft Beavers during that period, your assistance is greatly needed. Please contact me at batman2u.sp@gmail.com.

Comments: I am doing genealogy work for my cousin & trying to find ANYTHING on her father-in-law, Donald Angus McLennan. He supposedly served in the Korean Conflict - grave marker states "CPL H&S CO 44 ENGR CONS BN, Korea". He died at home in 1966, when my cousin's husband was only 5-yrs old.

Family lore says that Donald was a POW at some point in Korea.... We do have his SS#, but do not have his actual Service #. Is there a way to get ahold of his Service #, as I need it to be able to order his Army(/ANG?) records from the National Archives.

Does anyone have any knowledge of any of the company having been captured/taken as POW's in/during Korea?

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

We built and repaired roads mostly up in the JSA.
Repaired roads at the Swiss/Sweed camp and camp Liberty Bell so on and so forth. I served in So. Korea 1977-1978. A Co was housed w/Hq Co at Camp Mercer in Bucheon. During my tour of duty I have spent time at Camps Mercer, Houze and Casey. I am trying to locate anyone from A Co and Hq Co from that period of time, 77-78.

Comments: I was in the med detachment from Jan. 1952 till May, ,52, that held sick call. One MD, one dentist 8-10 enlisted. There were 2 buildings that had been a boys high school, one very large & a smaller one, that we were in. Sick call was mostly coughs & colds & minor work injuries.
Our cots were in a former class room with chalkboards on the wall. Soon grew weary of Spam, 3-4 times a week. Frequent movies & occasional Korean bands, etc in the auditorium on the top floor.
The 44th was very busy repairing all the destroyed bridges all over Korea,,,destroyed by each retreating army. First the retreating South Koreans, then by the retreating North Koreans as we advanced from Pusan & Inchon. Then by the US down as far as Seoul, from the Chinese. Then by the Chinese as we drove them back North.

Comments: I am interested in the History of the 44th during the Korean
War. My father landed at Inchon on Sept 26, 1950 with the 44th
and left Korea on Nov. 30th, 1951.

I can't seem to find any websites or histories of what they did
once they landed at Inchon although my father's record says he
served in four campaigns.

I would really like to find out what they did during the war to
better understand what his mission was while there.

I would appreciate any help provided.

Thank you,

Comments: It is totally believable that part of my tour in Korea was spent in an army base
that the Army continues to say was non-existing. If the men I was based with and I
had known that, we would never have returned to base. Fort Beaver by the way, was
the only Army installation in Korea, to be designated a Fort. All the other
installations were either designated Camps or Depots.

All I know is, at the end of a night of drinking in the nearest village, we always
stumbled back to a place called Fort Beaver. I think someone should let the 73rd
Artillery Division soldiers, that they weren't stationed there either, (right
across the main road from our unit.

I did my blunts, after my military service, and I know where I was stationed.
