Comments: Dad served in Korea for two or three Christmas's. He trained as a cook at Ft. Riley Ks. Then went to Korea He never talked a lot about his time over seas. The one thing he talked about was the cat skinners from Washington and Oregon area taught him a lot about running heavy equipment. The army learned about his cat running time in Ks. So they put him in the unit he served with. His cat time in Ks. was plowing go figure. Dads name was Eugene or Gene as he had some seniority and was some what older than most of the guys in his unit they called him dad. We do have some photos. One in particular is the recovery of a D9 that was buried in a bog a thirty foot cable was attached to the 9 as it was going down at night. Took three days to get the unit recovered. Thanks for your time Carl.

Have you ever wondered what became of the thousands of
peasants/refugees you encountered during the Korean War? A
daughter writes her mother's memoirs - the incredible journey
of a peasant escaping communism and her American hero from the
76th Engineer Construction Battalion.
...
LOVE BEYOND MEASURE - MEMOIRS OF A KOREAN WAR BRIDE
By Katie Schell
Katie Schell, daughter of Pega Crimbchin (Ock Soon Lee) just
published a new book detailing her mothers journey from that
of a Korean peasant to a proud American.
The memoirs tell the story of Ock Soon Lees incredible
survival during the Korean War. While she witnessed many
Koreans and Americans die around her as the Battles for Seoul
raged on in 1950, miraculously, she survived.
The story begins with her tragic childhood as a slave for a
brutal family at the early age of seven. When she finally finds
a way out of her situation, she ends up in Seoul several years
before the outbreak of war.
After the Communist invasion, Ock Soon finds herself totally
alone, near starvation and surrounded by death. The story tells
of the extraordinary journey from Seoul to Taejon as she
escapes the city prior to the Third Battle of Seoul.
It is the remarkable story of true courage, faith and love. It
is a story of loyalty and sacrifice. It is a story you will
never forget.
Ten Percent of all proceeds will benefit drilling wells for
fresh water. This is at the request of Ock Soon Lee who
carried water on her head for many many years.

The magazine, the Graybeards, has a story about the 430th and it's activities during the time I was with them. July 1951 to July 1952.
Got a call from a Vincent Anthony Coppola, asking if I knew anything about the death of his brother, killed in an accident, May 8, 1952.
His brother was in A company 430th and the accident happened around the Hongchon area.
Being I was in C company, I had no information about his brother's death.
Any of you guys, from A company, who are familiar with Pasqui Coppola and know what the facts are about his death, please contact me and I will forward the information to his brother, who has no computer.
Please, wrack your brains and come up with anything you might know about this unfortunate death.
