The author is a long-term member and correspondent with the Korean War Project. This book began as a family history and quickly morphed into a combined history/genealogical autobiography which tracks the westward migration of his 18th century immigrant Scot forbearers.

Covered here are the major stories of the 20th Century that affected the author, in his early years; the Great Depression, World War Two, the Korean War, and Vietnam.

The struggle of his proud Scottish farm family ic in the center of the narrative. At age 17, the author quits school and joins the US Navy.
