Comments: I'm looking for any information on my dad's involvement in the Korean War. His name was David Forest King, and all I know is he was with the Marine's 7th Regiment, anti-tank infantry. He passed away in 2006, and never cared to talk about the war with anyone. It was a very sore subject. He didn't come home with any friends. My oldest brother is named after one of his friends whom I believe lost his life in Korea. I'm not certain of the spelling, but I think it was Patrick Whipple. Sadly, that is the extent of my knowledge. I would love to learn anything I can about my dad's involvement with the Korean war. Thank you!

Comments: My grandfather's name is Virgil Likens, but he passed away in 2005. I had a really strong connection with him and really want to find out more about him. He served as a Corpsman within 3/7 and was deployed to Korea. One of the only things I know about his actions over there is that he was injured twice in October 1952 (10/4/1952 and 10/6/1952). I really want to know if anyone knew him or knew what happened to him during that time. He was am HM2 when he got out, but I am not sure what he was during 1952.

Comments: My father William R. (PeeWee) Zahirniak served in the 7th Marine Regiment 3rd Battalion during the Korean War. Hew was wounded by artillery on July 23, 1953. He lost his gunner who he knew as Rod. He did not know Rod's last name but that he believes he had a Hispanic last name and that he was black. He said they went to assist a rifle company at an outpost called Boulder City. My father has been talking about it more since he is getting older and I thought it would be nice to find someone who knew Rod or his family. He did say Rod was a cpl.

I am 93 years old, a WW2 Veteran with no knowledge of the circumstances surrounding my brother's death. Russ enlisted in 1948, and as best we know was killed on the drive toward Uijongbu on 10/2. Other casualties that day were Marines R. Bonincontri, P. Crosley, P. Redigonda and J. Forte. God bless you all!

Comments: I am the sister of Marine Pfc Jerry Lee Shullenberger, from Michigan assigned to Company G, 3rd Bn, 7th Regt, 1st US Marine Division, summer of 1952 to 8 July 1953 (KIA). The best I can find out, he was providing defense at COP East Berlin and Berlin, Hill119 and Hill 111. The Berlin complex came under attack by CCF later and was retained by the US Marines of the 3rd Bn, 7th Regt. I understand that the lights of Panmunjom Peace location could be seen from these hills. A Captain Hall may have been his unit Commanding Officer.

Understanding that many of our Korean Veterans are leaving us, I am in hope that there maybe someone who is alive that knew Jerry and can tell me more about my brother who is missed dearly.

death report says he was killed by machine gun, not blown up by artillery. So it
seems his body could have been brought out.

Comments: Re: Weapons Company, 7th Marine Regiment, 3rd
Battalion, 1st Marines; USMC SGT. Timothy Root Young (Korea
July 1951- January 1953)

My Father, Sgt. Young, Left the ship USS Newport News, in July,
1951 to go ashore and fight with the Wpns.Co. 3rd Bn 7th. Marines
Regiment, 1stMarDiv, in Korea. He was at that time the youngest
USMC Sgt. in Korea (He had lied about his age to join them). He
fought heroically, receiving a battlefield commission for saving
a General's life from machine gun fire. He was fooed to
represent (carried the colors) the entire 1st Marine Div. in
Ike's inaugural Parade. Before leaving Korea, General James A.
Van Fleet gave a farewell review to the collection of heroes
(including Sgt. Young) from the 8th Army who were fooed to
march in Eisenhower's inaugural parade. Gen. Van Fleet called
them the greatest collection of heroes that perhaps has ever
been assembled - significant of a great Army.
Does anyone have information on his company's movements from
July, 1951 through January, 1953?

Warmest Regards,
Dr. Mark E. Young, Sr.

Comments: I am looking for one Marine in particular. On September 12,
1951 on Hill 602 this one marine tripped a Anti Personnel Mine.
A Navy Corpman Robert Serrano ran through Bunkers, Sniper Fire
and Machine Gun Fire to reach this marine. In the process he
tripped a converted mortar shell that was used as an Anti
Personnel Mine. He made a split second decision and decided to
cover this wounded marine with his own body to shield him from
the blast in the process he was thrown a couple of feet and
later crawled foward to the wounded Marine to give him Medical
Aid. In a G Company reunion fast foward 2000 or 2001 held in
San Diego, Mr. Serrano was approached by a man who told him
that he had saved his life. Mr. Serrano did not think then
about getting his contact information or his name since it
happened so unexpectedly and did not connect the incident and
the man that approached him. If by any chance this particular
Marine reads this entry or has a buddy that knows the story and
was on that Hill on September 12, 1951 and saw the incident, I
would like to get in contact with you. The incident occurred
around 2 or 3 A.M. in the Morning. If by any chance this Marine
has passed away and told their family members that they met the
man that saved his life at a Marine Reunion for G Company
around 2000 or 2001, I would like to be contacted to learn of
his fate.

Comments: I beleive my uncle, W. Nolan Cope was a private in I
company, 3rd battalion, 7th marine regiment, 1st
marine division but may be mistaken. I do know he was
awarded a puple heart for wounds suffered in action
during the battle of bunker hill in 1952.

Would like to know more of his actions in this battle
and in Korea. Also would like to pass along that Nolan
passed away on Sept 18, 2011 to any that new him.
