Comments: Throughout his life, my father said virtually nothing of his service in Korea of more than fifty-years ago--that is, with the exception of the following two items: If a telephone call came for him while he was involved in a televised weekend football game at home, he always advised us, his family, to tell the caller, "No...he's not here just now. He's in Yong-dong Po, and he won't be home until Christmas." Second, upon hearing the all-too-ubiquitous phrase 'Korea: The Forgotten War,' he was inclined to acidly reply, "G-- D--- --! You didn't forget it if you were there!!"

My everlasting respect and gratitude to the men of that bitter, bloody, overlooked war--your profound sacrifices' in Korea were perhaps too many and too severe for the rest of us to even begin to imagine. However, judging in part by the goose-stepping, tommy-gun carrying North Korean troops I saw on television last week--I would be more than willing to say that your presence in Korea a half-century ago was not without reason nor necessity.
