He was in Korea from Jul 1951 through Aug 1952. I am interested in knowing what he did and how much combat he may have been involved with. Also, what were the typical duties of a wireman and wire chief.

Comments: Re: Weapons Company, 7th Marine Regiment, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines; USMC SGT. Timothy "Root" Young (Korea July 1951- January 1953)
My Father, Sgt. Young, Left the ship USS Newport News, in July, 1951 to go ashore and fight with the Wpns.Co. 3rd Bn 7th. Marines Regiment, 1stMarDiv, in Korea. He was at that time the youngest USMC Sgt. in Korea (He had lied about his age to join them). He fought heroically, receiving a battlefield commission for saving a General's life from machine gun fire. He was selected to represent (carried the colors) the entire 1st Marine Div. in Ike's inaugural Parade. Before leaving Korea, General James A. Van Fleet gave a farewell review to the "collection of heroes" (including Sgt. Young) from the 8th Army who were selected to march in Eisenhower's inaugural parade. Gen. Van Fleet called them "the greatest collection of heroes that perhaps has ever been assembled - significant of a great Army."
Does anyone have information on his company's movements from July, 1951 through January, 1953?
Warmest Regards,
Dr. Mark E. Young, Sr.

Comments: My brother and I are looking for information on Donald Turner (our uncle). He was killed manning twin 50’s when he couldn’t raise the gun height enough to shoot over the bodies of the enemy and they were over run. Apparently a marine from the 1st Marine Division - either 5th Battalion 7th Regiment or 1st Battalion 7th Regiment related the story to John Charles Cheek "He told me that story one sunny day in the summer of 1953. We sat in the trench outside my bunker, smoked and shot the bull for 15 or 20 minutes. I think he was there to buy a bottle of whiskey from me."
Can anyone help?
My Dad was never able to talk about his favorite brother and we would like to keep the family history intact. Our other Uncle is very old now and would like to hear about Donald.

Comments: While rummaging through some of my father's memorabilia yesterday, I came across a NAVMED 210 Emergency Medical Tag Booklet, and discovered a handful of names which might be familiar to a few of this page's visitors. Sergeant Albert Louis Thompson, USMC, DOB: 7-27-28, was treated by HM3 T.J. Fressie for "Laceration (shrapnel) RT Thumb," on 11-20-51, while a member of G 3/7. Another patient treated by "Doc" Fressie was Private John D. Taylor, USMC, DOB: 10-20-33, who, on 05 Feb '51, was administered morphine for "gunshot wounds to left forearm." Also mentioned in these records are several others' who were variously treated either by Fressie or by my father, HM2 Lowell F. "Lou" Leibold, a member of G 3/7, and a 'retread' from WWII, Operation "Iceberg" (Ryukyu campaign). They are as follows: Cpl Robert L. Creamer; Cpl William R. Christensen; HN Philip Marzolf; PFC Edward L. Murphy; Sgt M.C. Barnes; Sgt M.J. Williams, Sgt T. J. Siva, and HM3 Doyle Powell. The best I can tell, these men were treated for wounds received between 2-51 and 5-52 on or near the Easy Med compound. And to the kind gentleman who contacted me recently, regarding wound verification, I sincerely apologize for having misplaced your message and name; indeed, I hope yours' is one of those listed above. If not, please re-establish contact with me, and I will seek additional information through the VA. Though you were treated by my father for severe head trauma, I've been unable to uncover a listing of the incident in any of Dad's records. Finally, if there exists an outside chance that any of you were with my father while near Shuri Castle, on or around 19-20 June '45, on Okinawa, please feel free to contact me. I am seeking confirmation of a potential Silver Star commendation for Dad, and will be very grateful to gain any additional information that may still be out there. My heartfelt thanks to the owners of this page and to the Marines and Corpsmen who served in 'the land of the morning calm.' My father's last earthly words, issued while the man lay comatose in a Branson, Missouri hospital, in 1994, were reserved for you, and for you alone.

Comments: A couple of my dads buddies were with the the WPNS/3/7. Unfortunately Fred Grant was KIA 12/09/50 at Chosin, Don Morton was wounded the same day. My dad (Al Young) went through PI with these guys in 1947, served with them in Cuba as part of the 6th Marines, 2nd Div. My dad did not reenlist but Grant and Morton did. They were reassigned to the 1st Div and sent to Korea.
My dad is trying to find Morton and also the burial site of Grant. Also any guys he may have gone through PI with(Sept. 1947, Plt 101)

Comments: Looking for anyone who knew Philip F. Molloy Jr. Service #1126171, USMC. I believe he was a Machine Gunner with H/3/7 in Korea between Nov 1950 and Dec 1951. If you knew him, can you tell me what you knew about him? He was from Norfolk, Ma. and enlisted in Boston in May-Jul 1950.
I have an official Dept of Defense photo of him receiving communion on an emergency helo pad behind the front lines in Korea. The Chaplain giving the communion is the 7th Mar Chaplain, LtJG Alan R. Gibbons of Revere, Ma. The photo is not dated.
I am Phil Molloy's son. I am a Marine at Camp Lejeune. Semper Fi

Comments: My Dad served in H37. His name is Jim Wressell, and he was a machine gunner. If you have any pictures or stories, or want to contact him, please send me an e-mail. He was part of a special unit that would sneak behind enemy lines, and was one of a handful of guys to wear cammoflage dungarees. They were called Candy Bar Kids in an Argossy magazine article.
