Comments: Dear all,

I am looking for information on my great-uncle, William Ullman, including picutres of his service unit. Served with I Co in 1953 and was KIA July 19, 1953 near Outpost Berlin. Was found and repatriated 9 months later, along with fellow Marines V. Rosetto and C. Nowoczynski. Previously served around Punchbowl in 1951, possibly with Weapons Company, 3nd B, 7th Marine. Was wounded 4x. We know very little of his time in Korea, have no pictures of his Co, etc. We would greatly appreciate any info or suggestions for further research.

SSGT Ullman was a platoon leader, though we do not know which platoon. was wounded around July 12 1953 near Ganjii-Dong, Korea.

Thanks, God bless.

Comments: On October 7th 1952, I was one of two engineers who went out fairly late on night patrol (about 2300) with members of "I" Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Infantry Regiment. As we moved along in single file, we were ambushed on an unknown (to me) ridge by a Chinese machine gun nest, who had apparently set up earlier in a trench on the crest of the hill. The first blast of the machine gun caused everyone to scatter for cover. I believe a large number of Marines were killed or injured in the first few seconds of the ambush, but it was hard to tell exactly what happened in the dark. However I did realize it was a VERY BAD SITUATION. One wounded guy screamed and moaned for several hours and then all was quiet.
Our patrol leader that night was Staff Sergeant Lewis G. Watkins who I found out much later (like a week ago!) won the Medal of Honor that night. This was a complete surprise to me. After spending all night completely pinned down by incoming artillery, mortars, small arms fire, a machine gun etc. things quieted down by dawn and a rescue platoon came out from the MLR and got us (still living) guys out of there. We retrieved rifles, etc off the dead bodies.
I assume the infantry rescue platoon retrieved the dead and wounded since I was told to leave the area immediately and get back to safety. An infantryman and myself headed back down the hill to the MLR loaded down with weapons. I heard later that the other engineer was badly wounded, and I understand was evacuated back to the hospital ship. I never saw him again. I never knew any of the infantrymen since we engineers would be driven up to the MLR, given a quick review of the patrol objectives and that would be pretty much it. Since this was my first night patrol, it was all new to me. Luckily I was placed in the rear of the patrol (about 20 of us). That probably saved my life.
Well... my point in telling this story is to possibly get in touch with ANYONE from this infantry company who is still around and remembers this specific patrol in October 1952. Someone MUST remember Sgt. Watkins. He seemed like a "bigger than life" character when I met him a few hours before he was killed.

Comments: My father is looking for the relatives of two Marine Pfc's he was with when they were KIA on 4 Apr. 1953 at Combat Outpost "Vegas" in Korea, Merle D. Pearson and Kenneth D. Price (both from Kansas). Also a fourth Marine (Thompson?) may have been wounded or KIA when their position was hit. My father was wounded and has always wanted to contact their relatives. My father's name is Murray Miller. As far as I know, all served with Company H, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Division.
