Comments: II was at Inchon, Wonsan, Koto-ri, and Hagaru-ri (Chosin). The H&S 2nd Bn, 7th Marines comm platoon were my brothers, the family I never had as a kid on the farm in Wisconsin. We were quite close. We could insult each other and laugh about it.
Mostly, does anyone know of Stanley Jones (a SC boy)? He was a wireman with Fox company at Toktong pass. Or a guy known as Gums Miller? He was hit in the leg and on his way out. His last words were, I'll see you sons-of-bitches in Japan, with a smile. Or Max McGee from AR? Or com Sgt Bates?
8 months, we slept on the ground. 8 months, no showers, no hot meals- none, Food was 100% C-Rats. Food in tin cans, often frozen. No fires. Truly, my life expectancy was zero all day, all night. Almost died there one very cold night. Two unknown Marines rescued me. Semper Fi forever! Yes, and now I'm in tears. Hate that!
Keywords: When we boarded ships at Hungnam, the amazing part is the 90,000+ N Koreans that walked away from their homes and families, rejected communism forever. Wise decisions. Many made it to the USA. The S Koreans love and respect the USA for what we gave them. Freedom! Prosperity! Security!
The war was triggered by our Pres Truman who indicated to Russia's dictator Stalin that the USA had no interest in S Korea.
Chosin happened because Gen McArthur's ego got in the way of military judgement.
What genius would send a full Marine division + an Army Regimental combat team up into the mountains on a skinny dirt road? The road stopped at the Yalu River- China. A few Chinese blew the bridge over the penstocks (water pipes). Trapped! Retreat? Poor choice of a word by a reporter. WE FOUGHT our way out! We paid the price for their mistakes.

Comments: I am the daughter inquiring of others who served with my father. My father has CML (chronic myelogenous leukemia) severely at this time. The VA does not seem to substantiate that this is a cancerous disease that can (50%) be a latent cancer, as it is in my father - from radiation residue/residual fall out, etc.
I also have an uncle (daddy's brother) who also has a leukemic disease and served in the Korean War at the same time.
If someone can help me, my prayers for you and yours will forever be with HIM.
Honestly, I am looking for someone to come forward and substantiate their presence around my father! Isn't there any one that is still on this earth?!
My thanks and sincerity,
Alfreda Doonkeen Woodward (daughter)

Comments: My father was TSgt James Final. His records show he participated in the Wensan-Hungnam-Chosin campaign, Northern Korea from 23Oct50-2Dec50. It also says he participated in capturing and securing Seoul 21Sept-7Oct.
Would be interested in hearing from anyone who served with him, or knew him.

Comments: A very close friend, Benedict Daniel (Danny) Fix, was a navy corpsman assigned to the 1st Bn, 7th. Marines during the Nov/Dec retreat from Chosin Resevoir in 1950. He awakened in the Army Hospital at Osaka Japan on 12/05/50 where he was hospitalized until 1952. Was then transferred to a VA hospital in Los Angeles where he was released in 1954. All remaining records were lost in the 1973 fire, and he has never received a DD214. He has no computer but needs help locating old buddies and reconstructing his military records. Please contact me if you can provide any assistance. Dan Buck, Redondo Beach, CA.
