Comments: I am looking for leads to help with a VA Claim. Does anyone have any information of a suicide that occurred on one of the radar sites on the Z in 1980-81. I know that there were several by ROK soldiers and thats what I am looking for. I was the Divarty driver and spent a great deal of time traveling to all radar sites and just don't remember the actual site number. Any information would be great appreciated and I don't have a problem paying a good amount of $ getting these leads as I have been paying $1000's of dollars to private Korean investigation firms with zero return. So I have nothing to lose right now and I am so very frustrated with the VA. I earned my medical benefits and hate the fact that they are making me prove something that happened instead of them putting any energy trying to help me. You help me and I will help you as I know time is valuable.

Comments: I servered in Etab Wolfpack in 1980-81 and was on most radar sites at the time as I was
the BC's driver/asst. I am looking for anyone who remembers any suicides in that time period.
I do not remember the actual site numbers as it was 30plus years ago. There was one suicide
that occurred in the arms room and another by gunshot. Both of these suicides were by ROK
soldiers/Marines. Any help at all would be gladly appreciated.

Comments: When I was partying in a Village outside of Camp Casey I was approached by a army soldier who walked up and punched me in the face while I was talking with a Lt. I took the punch and returned a punch with my beer mug still in hand and smashed it in his face aong with some more blows . I then ran out of the bar and heading through the village happening apon 2 MP's. I explained to them what had happened as my hand was tore to shreds. At that moment the soldier who attacked me was running towards us, blood covering his whole face. The 2 MP's took off running and right before he got to me i ducked and he grabbed me and we went flying thru a shoe store glass window. I got up and ran into the MP's Trailer where it took 8 guys to hold him back. Afterwards we went to the hospital and got stiched up, I pulled back the curtain and saw his face while they were stitching him up, I felt really bad and to this day regret what I did. I hope he healed up well and I hope he has had a great life. I had to pay for the glass and they removed me from PAC and put me in Charlie Company.

Comments: I'm trying to reach other members of Weapons Platoon Wildbunch , I served From October 1980 to November 1981. I finally got my 100% from VA but it took getting Liver Cancer to do it. I fought them from 2007 - 2013 and got it. Still have some medical difficulties but at least we can live. I would like to see other brothers from the Platoon SSG Hill was our Platoon Sgt. Sargent Thomas was a squad leader Tony Hunter and Bruce Chalkey would like to get together for a platoon reunion.

We need to have a class action lawsuit against the government. How many DMZ vets suffered or are suffering, not getting help because they are not considered combat vets. We are traumatized again and again by a government that can not stop lying about us.
No soldier left behind, that is not true. Not only were we going to be left behind, we were put there for that reason. They sent soldiers to die so they could change the minds of the American people that were tied of war. That is as sick as any other country we have looked at in disgust at over them killing there own people.
DMZ vets must raise to the occasion and defend their rights and preserve their history as they defended freedom on the frontlines. DMZ vets held back an enemy in the most dangerous and heavily armed place on earth, and I think they can be as strong and fight the battle for their dignity and life.
The US government has thieved benefits from us they many need to help them with unknown illnesses, and PTSD.
Those died did so as an accident, self inflicted , or illness. That is the best our government can do for soldiers who held back an enemy that would have taken over Korea if we not there. This needs to stop and stop now. We can not be let them keep screwing us while our brothers are suffering and dying because their are being refused medical care.
The first trauma is bad enough, but for the government to repeat it over and over again by lying and denying should disgust any American.

Comments: 1984 - 1985. 2nd I.D. During a winged-chariot run to our combat holes my squad was overtaken by an early morning cloudlike fog, not far from the Z. I thought that somehow tear gas had drifted on the wind to us but I was not taking any chances and ordered MOPP 4. Four of us where flown to the Battalion AID station and then to the Division Medical Hospital which so happened to be in the field. The staff of medical professionals treated us like we had in-dead been gassed but by what they would not say. They all were in MOPP 4 upon our arrival. I had just recently been to the 25th I.D. NBC Sergeants Course and over heard some key words. Our old uniforms were kept, along with boots, gear and all of the NBC suits. We got some shots that never appeared in our shot records and the care and decon at Division Med never showed up in our medical records. We then had to fly to our Battalion TOC individually and were grilled; (sorry) debriefed by our leadership teams for hours about what did and did not happen to us. We were fed cold chow as always and sent back to Camp. All day, I had wanted to know about my other squad members and was told that they were all fine. Back at the super-huch they were all in bed with some pretty red faces and those noses would not stop running. I got them up and to Medical which treated them for colds. I told all of them to put this day into the back of their minds just incase. Well that just incase day has found me. At 68 inches and 185 pounds I fight four my life every day. Years ago I was diagnosed with TYPE 2 DIEABETES, my KIDNEY'S are failing, have lost my right EYE, have cognitive difficulties and numerous other problems. I made copies of everything in my medical records yet over several moves since retirement had misplaced them. So years ago I requested copies of my medical records from the records keepers. Well they told me that the VA in Waco had them and Waco VA admits to having them still but I can not get copies of the records until my final claim in done. Even though I need them to search for evidence to support my claim. We all know the drill. I started tracing my steps. Way back, pulled all the right and wrong cards. Your federal elected officials are useless. Local fella's, now you can look them in the eye. Use all your service organizations. Even if you are not a member. DAV, VFW, the Legions and hundreds of Associations. DENIALS First I was told that I was never gassed. Then the North Korean military never used chemical agents near the Z. Then was informed that there was no AGENT ORANGE in Korea. NEVER treated for this exposure, right. Closed case..... Wrong answer. Remember that little chopper air evac I and my guys took to the Battalion Aid station. It was in the logs that we were there and the Battalion Commander ordered the medic to send us to Division Medical. You could hear a pin drop at my appeals hearing, but when you could go. GOT MINE. Just do not give up!

Comments: I need information about a private, don't remember his name, who shoot himself while we were living in Tent City near the DMZ. I blocked out the entire incident, and very hard to remember many things, just that from the time I enter country and the unit, he was on permanent restricted duty for going over commanders head because they didn't not approve him to get married to a Korean girl. He had the brightest personality and smile ever. He was either Hawaiian or Spanish decent. He always told me that he will not let the break him. I was transferred to another camp, a mechanized infantry unit that had a motto right at the entrance THE MOST FORWARD DEPLOYED MECHANIZED INFANTRY UNIT IN KOREA. Please assist me.

Comments: July 1, 2015 marks the 50th Anniversary of the 2IDs return to Korea after the cease fire in the Korean War. The 2ID played a major role in the Korean War and it was appropriate that the Division return to continue to play a major role in guarding Freedoms Frontier.
On that day in July, the 1st Cavalry Division was reflagged as the 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Howze which was Division HQ at the time. The 2nd Indianhead Division Association is organizing a return trip for 2IDA members that were present at the reflagging and for other DMZ veterans that would like to go. We anticipate a group of about 25-30 and are still working out the details. We are working on the eligibility for participation. We are beginning a major fundraising effort to help offset the cost of the trip for the returning veterans and need to know the level of interest in this trip. The tentative plan is to depart Los Angeles about June 26 or 27, 2015 to return about July 3. You will need a current passport. If you are interested, please let us know at 2ida.mail@charter.net. Your e-mail is not a commitment, but merely an expression of interest. The leadership of the active 2ID has generously agreed to help with planning the celebration events and perhaps some tours of the area. I have had 2 bouts with cancer the first one 18 years ago and the 2nd just 2 years ago. I am going to put a claim in with the va for this. That one short year had more of an impact on me than my entire career afterward and on thru to retirement. I've posted a couple of times on here over the years, just trying to connect with some of the crew, no matter what year or years you were there because as all who served in any part of South Korea know, the connection to our particular unit/location has not so much to do with any particular time frame but more so with the fact that we have that special something in common that only those of us who were there can understand.

Comments: I was there and ran more than my share of ambushes.
It was from 81 to 82.
I was the point man because we had to have a E5 walk point at that time.
I wore the old PVS 5 night vision goggles. I remember laying in nasty rice paddy water on ambush and getting bit by rice patty rats. At that time we were not allowed to engage unless fired on first. We had to account for every round we took out with us and turn them back in when we got back. We always had to zero our weapons and starlit scopes before we went out on ambush so we would swipe all the extra ammo we could get and take it out with us in extra mags we could pop a shot are two back at them with out getting in trouble when we got back.
The SOP was for us to shoot off a parachute flare if we were shot at before we could return fire.
Well the ones making the rules did not have there ass out there so we did not use no flares we used FMJ to say hello. The whole squad stuck together and help fast if we were questioned in the rear. It did not take long before the North Koreans left us the hell alone.
I remember one time were I was leading us of to set up an ambush and I could hear some solders walking towards us. I gave the hand signal and my guys all got down on there bellies I crawled up thur some bushes and counted four of them walking by so close I could have took there little sandals off. I have a lot of the symptoms of agent orange myself and have been denied vet benefits. I wish someone would help us get them.

Comments: Was stationed at F Co 702nd Maint Bn Camp Casey worked in the engineer third shop first half of tour, then the reminder of tour as battalion reenlistment clerk. I often traveled up to other companies stationed near the DMZ to do paperwork. I can recall having some GI problem while stationed there,thought it was the lifestyle. I started having full blown Crohn's disease in 1992. Two years doctors found a gold ball size B Cell lymphoma in my guts. I also can remember being sprayed at Ft Dix with insectide by plane on the parade grounds. I filed for benefits 3 years ago and was denied. My father had three tours in Korea, during the war, in the early 60's and during the Pubelo crisis, who knows what exactly he died of or passed on to his kids.
