Comments: My grandfather was Corporal Harold Max Barden. He served from 11/1950-11/1953. He passed away in ‘77 when my mom was 11. Nobody really seems to know much about his time in the military. I have requested his OMPF but was advised it was likely destroyed in the fire of 73. I found a copy of VA request for burial benefits and it shows that he was in Korea, assigned to the 4th Signal Battalion. I was hoping someone on here may remember him, or have any other information about him. Thank you.

Comments: My Grandfather , Junior Merton Burnett , was a Radio man and lineman in Korea . He was with the fighting 4th in 1950 and did the major invasions beach landings . He told me they assigned him to the marines as a radio opp . He's still alive at 92 . We are from the central ny region , And I guess I'm just looking for old Brothers in arms to maybe connect with and get more info for my grandfather . Lost his wife (my grandmother) after 75 years and he's depressed . Just looking for something and some old memories to cheer him up . He went thru Ft. Dix , joined in 49 I believe before the draft .. To November 1951 before that he served in the NY National Guard company I 165th (69) Infantry.
He always said the true hero’s never returned and he missed the friendships he had made while serving. I was wondering if there was any further information on people that served since apparently his records where lost in a fire in Virginia after the war. Or if anyone would actual remover him.

Comments: I got switched from an assignment in Japan to one X Corps, Dec 1953. Arrived
Tokyo, on to Ita Jima, on to Sasebo, to Inchon, Seoul, Chunchun, Karo-ri. All on
hold while there, then all turned over to become 1st ROK Field Army.
Keywords: Claim to fame? LOL. When CG Corps decided all hands needed to begin jogging, I
suggested our Wire units who were clambering up and down hills and mountains might
not need that. So, the HQ let us substitute The Army Daily Dozen each morning.
That was my contribution, besides getting the COs out of hot water re their
supplies when the IG inspected.

Comments: I made the amphibious assault at the Battle of Inchon in September 1950. As a member of the 4th Signal Battalion, Company A, I ran wires near the front lines for at least 14 months (my memory is not perfect) and was stationed in Japan for about six months before I finally was sent home. I went on to work in communications for RCA for 45 years in NYC and abroad before retiring in the NY suburbs in the 1990s.
During the war, my best friend was Elmer Soprano. I was sent home before him and lost the paper where I wrote down his address before I made it home. This is an image of Elmer that my grandson located online when I told him this story:

Comments: I served at Headquarters Co., 4th Signal Corp during 1952 in the Cable section in Korea. I came across this site and wandered if anyone might still be around that served during that period. I was looking at an album of my Army days and ran across some pictures of my time there with names. Pictures with names include: Bob Croft, Leland Scott, Hank Pfiefer, Gene Walters, E.C. Jones, Ed Ratdke, Kenny Thomas, Jerry Rider, Jim Miller, Willie Hughes, Lonnie Gore.
I was drafted in Oregon, worked for Bell Telephone 20 years there, moved to Arizona, worked 20 years there, retired in 1983. Lost my wife of 53 years in AZ. made contact with a close friend of my wife, whose husband was at Camp Gordon with me in 1952, since deceased also. We all actually shared kitchen privileges off base in Augusta for 3 months while in Basic. I ended up marrying my wife's best friend and moving to Oklahoma where we presently reside.

Sept 52. Mark Bennenson and I delivered messages to the
units on the front line for about two months.I was then
assigned to the radio teletype transmitter site on the
hill next to the POW Camp. We spent several weeks
setting up a transmitter site at the 20th ROC Div for a
KMAG unit. I would like to remember more of the people
I met over there but we were pretty much isolated on
the hill and only went to the Bn for our meals ,the PX
and for the enlisted mens club. I do remember my Co who
was a Chemical Engineer from Ok. Lt Nicholson. I also
shaired our tent with Gerald Timms from Minnisoto and
Robrt Baggett from Missouri. I also Remember all of the
USO shows and Special Service shows that came over
there. There was Debby Reynolds, Eddie Fisher,Walter
Pidgeon,Kathy Grandstaff who changed her name to Kathy
Grant and married Bing Crosby.There was Earnest
Tubbs,Hank Snowe and many others I can not remember.
After all im 82 years old.

Monmouth N.J.for about 10 months in 1951
Arrived in North Korea, above 38th Parallel in Jan 1951
and left Jan 1952.
Served one month with 1ST Marine Corp.at Division
Headquarters, as their Carrier And Repeater Specialist,
possibly with my buddy, Bob LathAm from Huntington NY,
who I had gone through boot camp with at Camp Gordon,GA
and then Carrier And Repeater School at Fort Monmouth NJ.
After returning to our unit,we volunteered to become
Cooks,both became First Class Head Cooks,feeding about
150-200 troops per day.
Had dinner,along with about 150 other troops with
Debbie Reynolds on Dec 25,1952. Most of the touring
Hollywood stars, after doing their shows would eat with
Officers, but not Debbie. When an officer tried to
steer her toward his table, she, pointing to me, as I
was Head Cook that night, serving on line,said, No,
I'm going to stay here and help him serve troops. This
way, I can at least get to say Hi to each one.

I know he was in the X Corps and the 4th Signal
Battalion, Company B amoung others.
His name is Cpl. John Knapp Sr and was from Naugatuck, CT. He served 18 months in Korea from 1953-1955.
Any information you can provide would be great. He served in Korea from 1953-1955. He was part of the 101st Signal Battalion, Company B.
There was also reason to believe he was part of the 34th Infantry Regiment, and the 24th Infantry Division.

I can't even find Karo-Ri on the map anymore. Some of us went

Comments: Worked in the Motor pool under a black Sgt. Gilberry.
Charlie Company was close to a bridge over the Haun River. I remember we loaned a Weasel to B Company and the Company commander and driver drowned because they forgot to install the drain plugs. I remember there two Wells brothers from Calif. and a black person named Rucker. Only encounter was at Finger ridge while picking up spiral 4 wire. Heard it was the last ofensive, but not sure. Spent some of time on the DMZ dog patrol with 7th Div.Had a good friend named Paul Schoonover from Cincinati,Ohio in the motor pool 7th Div. I'll remember more latter. I hope.

Comments: Drafted 1951 spent time in Camp Gordon, Ga. (now Ft.Gordon) attended several schools, High Speed Radio Operators, 1st Signal Corps leadership school there. Shipped to Korea in 1952 returned and discharged 1953. Most of time while in Korea north of 38th parallel over Inje pass running a radio teletype van, some fire control missions for X Corps Artillery around the "punchbowl" area. Also,in charge of code school for infantry radiomen at R and M company headquarters, Kwandae-Ri prior to returning to US. Spent required amount of time in Army reserve then discharged as a 1st Lt.

Comments: i am trying to find anyone who served in korea with my dad. his name was jim wright, and he was from marietta ohio. on his discharge papers it says his duty assignment was CO C 4TH SIG BN APO 909. i know he was a cook, and he was in japan and korea. he was discharged in march 1953 at fort custer michigan. i think he went to korea in oct 1952. any reply will be greatly appreciated. he passed away in 1987. and i still miss him. debbie jarrell
