Comments: I am the son of Ken Vanmeter. I am also retired from the US Army.
I have photo's which my father, Ken took while he was stationed in Seoul. He was assigned to HQ, 304th Signal Bn in 56-58. He was a crypto repairman and also had duty in the motor pool.
In 1957 he was involved with a dinner to help fund the Heim Yung orphanage. (named after an orphan who was left at the doorsteps of the orphanage. My father also looked after this girl.
I have many photographs of the soldiers assigned to my fathers unit, but to the point of this correspondence, I have a lot of photo's (on slides), of the soldiers interacting with the children at the orphanage and the and perhaps also of the the dinner that I mentioned previously.
One of the soldiers who was considered an Army Buddy, Ed Parsons also had a daughter whom he named after the girl that he cared for (Kim).
I read in a letter that the orphanage ground in Seoul consisted of three structures, 2 which each housed 60 children and one which was a carpenters shop which indicated that the men who worked their got lumber from the Army and built furniture.
If Anyone can help me locate remnants of the orphanage that would be fantastic. I would like my fathers photo's to get both to the orphanage, Hiem Yung (if she is still living) and the 304th Signal Battalion. My father Kenneth is still living.
