Comments: Bruce Lackey (Now 81yr)trained in Camp Polk, LA. He lost a tooth during training camp, but details unknown. In his company F, Bruce was known as Abe because of his resemblance to Abe Lincoln.
Bruce left for Korea March of 1951. The 279 infantry first went to the northern mountains of Japan for extensive training for 6 plus months, then on to Korea.
The stories known to us are that his battalions were there for relief efforts and hit the front lines immediately, taking large causalities. Only 1-3 solders survived the early onslaught.
No one else from the High Point local NC area survived.
Bruce remained on front line combat from Korea Fall/Winter 1951 thru Early Winter 1952. He left Korea October 1952. Some 40-50 yrs later, Bruce received a letter from an old war buddy ?????
thanking my father, Bruce for staying with him while he was injured and taking fire. Bruce stayed and ensured the safety of this soldier, while under fire waiting for the medic chopper.
My dad suffers from Alzheimers. Would love to hear any related stories or connect with any old buddies.

My platoon later brought in the first Chinese while on patrol -Sgt Rex terminated them so the general didn't get to question them. Someone cut the ears off several of the dead. Spent 41 days on the line before we got to get hot showers. I had a good group of men and I wonder where they all ended up in life. My first platoon Sgt Robert Pierce came to Corpus Christi a year or two ago to Bird Watch and called me so we had breakfast and a visit. My next platoon Sgt Leroy K Olson was also a fine soldier and Ive not heard from him since '52 when I was evacuated due to wounds. Our company came from Enid Oklahoma. I was assigned from a pool of officers who graduated fromTexas A$M University in June 1950 (when the war started) A month after I left the regiment was in a fierce fight on T-bone hill and many WIA and KIA. I would like to know how my men came through that. The only ones I've talked to were National Guardsmen and they were phased out just before the battle. If anyone knows somthing about that I'd appreciate hearing. Ive been to two reunions and those were great- I'm getting a little old to be going (81). The 45th is a great Division.

My Dad was born and raised in Sharon, PA; joined the Army in 1952; served in the Korean War as a Corporal; and then married the most wonderful gal (Our Mom), on August 25th, 1957. Together they had 1 Son and 4 Daughters, who in turn blessed them with: 5 Grandsons and 3 Granddaughters; 1 Step Granddaughter and 1 Step Grandson; and 1 Great GrandSon!! Throughout his life he lost his parents and his 3 sisters... He Loved Baking, Fishing, and Riding his John Deere Tractor! He had many pets: Dogs, Cats, Chickens, Roosters, a Pig, and even a baby Squirel! After only 51 years of marriage and almost 76 years of life, he was taken from this Earth to take his journey home. Please help my family figure out why my Dad received the Bronze Star and maybe learn a little bit more about his stay in the Army. Thank You So Much and God Bless!

Comments: My uncle who I never met (Father's Brother) was killed in action as an Infantryman in 1953 with the 45th Infantry Division. His name is PFC Edward Sinkler of Sumpter, SC. My aunt Sallie still talks about him. It seems he was a great man with high morale values. He had a tough time as a Negro in the south and in the US Army at the time. Unfortunately, he was not married not did he have any children. Records state that he was born in 1930 which made him 23 at time of death but my aunt swears he was 16 years old at time of death. Supposedly, he easily forged his date of birth to serve his country which was seemingly easy to do during those times and especially for a negro. I hope he received the right recognition.
Keywords: I am an officer currently serving on active duty in the US Army. I served as a Tank Platoon Leader in Desert Shield/Storm, an operations officer in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and a logistics officer during Operations Iraq Freedom.

Comments: My father Dave R. Arnold served with M Co 279th during Jan 51-Apr52 in Korea. He was an infantryman with an mos of hvy weapons mortorman. He is seeking assistance from fellow soldiers that served during this time and place for confirmation of cold weather injuries(frostbite)for VA disablities.all records of the VA for this period were burned in a fire a few years ago. Due to this only eye witness accounts have much of a chance to help veterans establish that they were in dire circumstances during these trying times.
anyonw willing to help, we will send a letter to you with the required info and selfstamped return envelope
We in return will assist you if you need confirmation with your medical disabilities turned down by the VA with the cold weather injuries. I am his eldest son, retired master sgt, Vietnam and Gulf war veteran so I know how it feels to be told that your service was not worth your countries time and money. Thank you for your past service in keeping us free here in the USA.

Comments: Looking for information on my Grandfather who recently passed away. I believe he was in the 45th. I know he went to a reunion in Oklahoma sometime around 96-97. Anyone remember him please let me know, I am just curious on his role because he wouldnt talk much about it. Thanks
