In researching the army history during Korean War, the 1st Cavalry Division was headquartered in Camp Drake near Tokyo.
Both my parents are deceased and so is my sister. I’m hoping to find my father’s military record as well as marriage information to my mother and possibly birth information of my sister, Patricia Ann Harris

Comments: My father passed away many years ago in 1971, arguably never recovering from his action in Korea. He would wake up screaming things like bed check Charlie and the tanks the tanks and of course coordinates that we could not understand. He was an Forward Observer with the 77th Field Artillery, 1st Cavalry Division. He was an ROTC cadet from St. Bonaventure University and was pulled out of school early to fight in Korea.
I do not know what I am looking for really. I have some of his items from the war, patches, and keepsakes etc. I guess I am curious if there is anyone left after all of this time that might still have known him or about his unit.
I recently suffered a fire at the family home and much was lost, but one thing I found was a DM armband, not DMZ and a gemmed belt that appears like it might have been some sort of fraternity belt or activity that might have been part of the unit lore.
He worked as part of the Saber and First Cav publications after the War and wrote articles and aided in 1st Cav functions and such. He loved the 1st Cav, I know that. He would not even let us watch F-troop since it was insulting to the Cav.
Keywords: I am not sure the battles or where he even was. I know he was in a heated exchange with a tank unit and he was calling in fire on them and his own position. He became separated from his unit during one engagement and he an a buddy had to work their way back to friendly lines. His nightmares included Bed Check Charlie and tank references. I was told his unit was primarily Korean and black US soldiers. With integration being a new thing, many Catholic Officers were chosen to lead units consisting of many black soldiers.

Comments: My father, U.S. Army Captain Honorato Singco Echavez
from Ginatilan, Cebu (naturalized American citizen) was
a commanding officer of a 1st Calvary Division company
with an African-American 1st Lieutenant and over 100
European-American army troops in Korea. In the winter
of 1951 in Korea, my father was ordered to take a
Chinese position on the top of a hill with machine guns
when it was snowing and cold. He told the army officer
that his company was low on ammunition and he would
have heavy loss of life; he was told he would be
court-martialed if he did not. So my father told his
troops the situation and told them to fix bayonets. My
father and his officers led the careful charge up hill
in the snow. They ran out of ammunition fairly quickly
but still kept going. They had heavy loss of life but
when they got to the top of the hill, they captured 21
Chinese troops. My father felt sorry for them because
they only had tennis shoes to cover their feet. Does
anyone else remember this encounter? My father
introduced me to his African-American Lieutenant when I
was seven. I was born in 1950 and spent time in
Hokaido, Japan during the Korean war and remembered my
nurse maid Hosaka. I am in the Baha'i faith.
