| WILLIAM FARRAR III wrote on July 26, 2010 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: I've posted previously. I just saw Hal on History Detectives, today. Prompted me to check for WIA records of my father William T. Farrar, Jr. I have copies of his service record which I obtained from SecNav. Dad was a member of Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines. He fought at Pusan, Wonsan, Inchon, Chosin and was wounded three times. The last time quite seriously at Hwanchon (spelling) Dam/Reservoir with a 61mm mortar landed between his legs as he dove for cover, serious wounds to leg and scrotum, they picked shrapnel out of his legs for the next 11 years,he died May 1962 on the operating table at Camp Pendleton. What concerns me is that his name does not show up on the Korean War Project's list of WIA's, although he was awarded three purple hearts (first two were minor including one in the hand), his personnel records do show the three purple hearts. He was also the adjutant (W.O.) of the 1st Joint Assault Signal Company 4th FMF, when it assaulted Roi Namur, Saipan and Tinian. LT. DAVID VANDERWART E/2/7 INFO... |
| HERMAN VANDERWART III wrote on June 4, 2008 CITY AND STATE: CENTRAL FALLS RI UNIT: H+S/ 1BN/ 25 MARINES/ 4MARDIV SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: Good day my fellow Marines and Semper Fi. I am conducting a family geneological history, and am taking this opportunity to research my uncle's role in the Korean, and/or WWII pacific campaigns. Internet hits suggest that he was CO for E/2/7 (perhaps temporary) at some time. As a Marine myself, I would invite anyone to contact me with information on him through recollections, etc. Chosin Marines, it goes without saying, carry the higest respect of us all. I've kept up the USMC tradition as a member from 1984 - 1992. I hope to hear. Semper Fi, my brothers. Herman Vanderwart III. Keywords: Lt. David Vanderwart, CO E/2/7, Korea.
