Comments: I was talking to my high school age son (17) last night who is studying the Korean War. I told him about his Grandfather who was assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Bn, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was a Navy Corpsman. Don Wymer was my father. I would be sincerely interested if any other fellow Marines remember him. He was 19 years old at the time of the Chosin Reservoir battle. He sadly past away in November 2001.

I am also a veteran having served in the US Army Corps of Engineers and retired as a Major in the US Army Reserve.

Thank you for your time and service to our country.

God Bless,

Lee Wymer

Presently getting in touch with some buddies in his unit but looking for anyone else that may have known him. He just passed away on 10-4-10. He didn't talk about his time there much and certainly didn't talk about his Purple Heart until later on in life.

God Bless you all for serving our Country. This nation owes you more than you will ever expect (because you're a Marine).

Comments: A correction to previous post. My son finally had a chance to review my father (William T. Farrar, Jr), service records. Seems that he belonged to Company E, 2/7th lst Division when he was wounded at Hwanchon Dam, catching a mortar between the legs. He died May 62, under the knife on operating table at Camp Pendleton, open heart surgery. His last post, prior to retiring in Sep 57, was as a First Sergeant at 29 Palms, previous he was a lst Sgt at 3rd MAW, El Toro. Adjustant (W.O.) with 1st JASCO in the invasion of Roin Namur, Saipan and Tinian.

Comments: I've posted previously. I just saw Hal on History
Detectives, today.

Prompted me to check for WIA records of my father
William T. Farrar, Jr.

I have copies of his service record which I obtained
from SecNav. Dad was a member of Alpha Company, 2nd
Battalion, 7th Marines. He fought at Pusan, Wonsan,
Inchon, Chosin and was wounded three times. The last
time quite seriously at Hwanchon (spelling)
Dam/Reservoir with a 61mm mortar landed between his
legs as he dove for cover, serious wounds to leg and
scrotum, they picked shrapnel out of his legs for the
next 11 years,he died May 1962 on the operating table
at Camp Pendleton.

What concerns me is that his name does not show up on
the Korean War Project's list of WIA's, although he was
awarded three purple hearts (first two were minor
including one in the hand), his personnel records do
show the three purple hearts.

He was also the adjutant (W.O.) of the 1st Joint
Assault Signal Company 4th FMF, when it assaulted Roi
Namur, Saipan and Tinian.

After Roi Namur the 4th FMF was rolled into the newly
formed 5th Amphib

However, the only information I have on his death comes via word of mouth from his mother and siblings (all now deceased)and what appears to be his final correspondense to his mother (my grandmother) from Korea, dated November 12, 1950. if anyone has any information about him during his time as an active reservist or his short time on active duty, it would be very much appreciated.
