Comments: My Dad. Corporal Thomas Witchek, was at Inchon and Chosin. He was with the 2nd. Bn. 7th. Mar., then he was with the 1st Bn. 7th. Mar., and then the 3rd. Bn. 7th. Mar. I am not sure what Bn. he was with at the Chosin but he was one of only six in his company that made it through. I also know he was in the 1st Mar. Div., Reinforced...if that is different from the above I have no idea. He was only 16 when he enlisted and only a little over 20 when he came home.
My Dad has passed and I am looking for anyone who might have known him or any information about what was going on when he was there. Putting together information helps with the grief and makes me realize more and more why I am so proud to be his daughter. I am in awe that he carried his patriotism, a strong bond to the men who fought with him and the Corp, and a genuine concern for the children who had to suffer the actions of adults over there all of his life.
For anyone who has time...interestingly my Dad had been injured and had shrapnel in his back. In the late 80's some of it moved and became infected. He only allowed his Dr. to remove the shrapnel that was causing him problem. I have heard other stories of the same. My uncle, who is also passed, had some sharpnel in his face his entire life as well, never to have it removed...and when we would go with him to sit around with some of his war 'cronies' several of them said they also kept their shrapnel. Of course when I was younger I never thought to ask...but my question now is ...why?
Thank you and God's Peace!

My Grandmother (his sister), is very interested in finding information about him. I was showing her the computer and how you can find information about people, and things, and she instantly was very curious about her brother, Leo Henkenius. He was killed in action (however, nobody knows anything about him.) Apparently it occured around the Chosin Reservoir near Yudam Ni. She's very interested in hearing from anyone who knew him, or anything about him. Thank you so much. E-mail at Happy3333@aol.com
