He was part of the Inchon landing and left Korea a year later. I came across his Marine Bible, which was given by Rex&Gail Mcdonald. He would probably lived in the northeast in his later years.I am very interested in learning more about this Veteran and his service to this great country.

Comments: I am the daughter of a proud Baker Bandit. My father, Roger German (Nebraska) served in Korea apx. 1951-1952. I know little else because he did not talk about his service there (at least not to me) and was uncomfortable with others talking about it in his presence. I have a photo taken on a ship in what I think may be the port of Pusan (or maybe further north near Inchon or Seoul?) He looks quite relaxed and he has his original glasses which makes me think it was taken upon his arrival, as he ultimately lost the glasses as well as his front teeth, at which point he was returned stateside and was stationed at Quantico until his discharge. The only other name I know is Richard Large (also Nebraska) and that they brought civilians down out of the mountains with them during a bitter cold winter. He has a marksman pin and some others that I can not identify.
He passed away in 2000 and many of his buddies are gone now too. I would like to know more from anyone who might have served with him, met him, know what part of Korea or battles he was in, etc. I have been doing some internet searching and reading but I just don't have enough clues to be sure of anything or know where to look next. Thanking you in advance if you have any information that might help. Semper Fi

Comments: To whom this goes out to:
Hi. My father fought in Korea. He is gone now and died from his own gun at the age of 52 after dealing with PTSD. In 1984 PTSD wasn't even a consideration. He was a good man and was troubled very much. After losing a son(my brother) to a car accident, his mother to pneumonia, he seemed to struggle with guilt.
I was 18 when he killed himself and never got an explanation why. I had played football in college that yr., and was trying to transfer to a bigger college until one day when he told me he suffered from depression and would have to go to the hospital in Roseburg oregon to get help. A few months later, he checked himself out of the hospital and my aunt and uncle brought him home even though the hospital knew he was suicidal. The next morning, he shot himself in a local park.
When I was younger, my father drank a lot, and got into fights at bars. Sometimes he would fight multiple people. He was strong, mean, and when he snapped he got this dark look in his eyes. I will never understand why or how he became so angry. But I know he was a boxer in his past and he never took shit from anyone and had a reputation around the valley as a brawler.
He got up early in the morning and worked at 5:00am. He was a teamster and beat up scabs when they would go on strike in different places. He was a bad drinker and seamed to lose control every time he drank.
He did a lot of nice things for people too. He worked hard and took care of my grandmother and seemed to always help others when he could. He was a good man. I wish I knew more about him and why he was so angry. I was told many stories over the yrs., but until recently, I wasn't too knowledgable about his time in Korea. He told me he was a cook and that he didn't see much action. But after my mother died, I found a lot of pictures showing how close they were to the North koreans across a river from them. I have a good picture of his battalion and I am sure theres got to be some guys still alive in that big group.
The reason I'm writing this is to find out some truth. I had a talk with my cousin who is 10 yrs. older then me. He told me that when he was a young boy, my father had come back to Astoria Oregon from korea and that his mom(my dads sister), had to go get him after he had tried to kill himself. Apparently he was screwed up from the fighting and was depressed. Somehow, they had a conversation during his time at my aunts and he told him about what he did and saw. He talked about pictures that he had that showed him in the middle of battle. Apparently, he mentioned many crazy things and my cousin is not the type of guy to lie. I just wanted to know if there was anyone that knew him. I just want to talk to one person that may have known my father, FLOYD WAYNE SOUTH. They can't find those pictures and apparently they weren't so nice. I don't care about the pictures, I just wanna talk to someone who experienced what he did. I want to know where you guys were, and if you knew him. I feel guilty that I didn't know more and that I wasn't able to help him even though I was a kid.
My mom, bless her heart, stood by him the whole time. My brothers are both dead now and I miss everyone dearly. I just want to know more. I don't care if its good or bad, I just want to know where you guys were, what it was like, and if you might have known him. I found this website randomly, and I will look around.
Thank you for your service, your time, and your heart.

Comments: i just found this board of messages and was deeply saddened by the similaritites in these stories, , my dad was a MARINE in Korea and never talked about it. we to never heard his stories or the stories of his buddies, he had some photos and he showed us but nothing to graphic,
there is so much to learn from that generation and it is sad that they could not bring themselves to discus this time of their life with their families. we have all missed out on this history, these men and women of the Korean War are heros to us , thier families and the nation, i find in reading these messages that it must have been pure "HELL" for these veterans and i am sorry we did not get to hear more sooner.
this is in memory of my father, John H Bingham who died in 2000 (not really sure from what)
if you knew him and would like to send me an email that is great. i just really wanted to say thank you to all the service men and women from Korea (the forgotten war) and the families that they had. i will be for one looking for more information on this topic. thank you for letting me say my peace. i pray that all those who are in need of peace find it .

Comments: "My father John Ashbrook Lockett left the Corp in 1953
as I understand it. He was very private as many vets
when it comes to war stories. He only spoke of base
life and bootcamp. Although some of these stories were
funny, they were all enjoyable. When my Dad became sick
in 1991 he started to tell me more about his actual
missions. I never saw my Dad shed a tear until that
day, it scared the hell out of me. I am proud to say
that he went to heaven a proud stedfast Marine. When he
realized that it hurt hum so to speak of his missions,
he clammed up and never would mention it again. there
are rumors in the family that he was a spotter. There
are others that he was some sort of special missions
Marine. I know that he saw combat, he was awarded at
least 2 purple hearts, and had scars on his back from
napom(sp?). My Dad left the Marines a SGT 1sr Class. I
now have my own children and grandchildren and I would
love to be able to them new stories about Dad. My mom
doesn't have any medals of Dad's due to a fire many yrs
before they even thought of me. I would also like to
find out what medals and honors Dad had. Please help me
find out anything about him."
This is what my Uncle posted on this sight. I do not
know if he ever got any information, but I am John
Ashbrook Lockett's grandson. I never knew this man yet
he is my hero. Can someone please send me a email
telling me about this man. As far as I know he was a
Marine Recon. And a damn good one. Please I beg of you
to clear this mystery, or at least give me a place to
go to find records on him.
