Comments: Iwakuni, Caviti, Formosa, North Island, All just memories now, But, in those days they were all very real and were all connected to that KOREAN War. We were too young to be afraid of those big blue twin tailed seaplanes even tho we had a right to be. Those old Martin Mariners carried us through thousands of hours in the air and most of it was over endless waters of the Pacific.
I'm in the mid 80s now and still kicking. If any of you guys are still out there I would like a call or e-mail from you any time, or if you ever come through Grants pass Oregon call me at:

Comments: I'm trying find anyone who served with Albert Forrest Pruett in VP 731 during the Korean War or during his service. Mr. Pruett passed away 22 Oct 14 in Mobile, Alabama. I'm a friend of the family and would like to build a shadow box to recognize his service to the nation for his wife and family. I helped the family request his official service records and they have sent me several pictures. He was buried with military honors and the Navy Honor Guard did an exceptional job. Any specific story or memories that you can share would be appreciated. His family doesn't know much about his time in uniform. Thank you all for your honorable and faithful service to the nation. V/r, Dave Wisecarver

Comments: My father, James H. Morey of Granville, Ohio, will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery on July 8, 2014 at 9:00 am. God bless all of you courageous men who served with him during WW2 aboard the U.S.S. Hancock and VP 731 during the Korean War. For those of us that appreciate your sacrifices, we are forever in your debt. For those who do not, go somewhere else and take your leader with you...

I was a member of VP-731 and flew as a radio operator for a short time with Crew 9 and later on with Crew 3 for the first deployment. While on the second deployment I flew as First Radio Operator for Crew 9. Our PPC was Lt. Calvin and our Commanding Officer was Commander W. T. O'dowd, the "Captain". We had two of our people killed in action by two Mig fighters on July 31, 1952. Harlan Gay Goodroad and Claude Playforth. We shall remember. They took away our two 50 caliper deck turret machine guns and gave us a "searchlight". Whoopee..just what we needed.

Comments: I am trying to gather information about the air combat operations of USN squadrons in Korea. In case of VP-731 I am interested in any information on the encounter between a VP-731 a/c and MiG’s 31 July 1952. Any further info on this encounter, or others, first hand or not, would be helpful.
