Comments: My granddaddy was stationed in Okinawa with VP-48 Patrol Squadron as an A/C Engine mechanic apprentice. He had told me he worked on float planes. His pay grade was E-3 and his name was Gerald David Smith but went by Jerry. He was born in Yadkin co. North Carolina if anyone can help I'd appreciate it greatly.

Comments: My thanks to CPO JOE GEISLER(ADC)and CPO POWELL(ADC) of VP-47 for setting me in the right direction after Boot Training. Later after I went to flight training and as navigator of crew 4 and new PPC of Crew 5 in VP-48. I know I didn't set any popularity records--know as a consistent S.O.B. by some of both crews; I don't apologize. We all came back alive and the crews were magnificent in all respects.

Comments: I wrote a book with many chapters devoted to my flying experiences in VP-48, from 1983 thru 1985. Adak, Misawa, Kadena, Cubi, Diego Garcia, Somalia, Australia to name just a few of the high flying adventures. Flying the Canyons of the Sky//Navigations of an Aviator's Soul is more than flying as I wrote of my witnessing of the fall of the Berlin Wall, The Hajj and life in third world countries. Check out AOCS and revisit flight school in Pensacola, all found with great reviews from squadron mates, high ranking officers and distinguished politicians. www.flyingthecanyons.com will facinate you as you relive the P-3 and much more.
