Comments: Reported early 1955 as an ATAN straight from A school with my good buddy Barry (Pitt) Pitman. Was radio/radar operator mostly in SB-12. Deployed to Kodiak with side trips to ADAK.. Loved air crew duty. Was not so crazy about cold, cold Kodiak. Departed in 1956 as an AT3 again with my buddy Pitt for rag shore duty with VF-124 at San Bruno California. Spent the next 20 years enjoying the Navy life. Retired as an E-7 in central Florida after serving in the following squadrons and ships. VU-5 Atsugi, Japan, Ships company AT A school Memphis, Ships Company USS FDR CVA-42, Pax River MD, VFP- 63, Miramar, CA, two cruises aboard USS Hancock, CVA-19, Andrews AFB, DC, PEWR Astor FL. I remember enjoying the area and crew life while stationed with VP-2. A good way to start a Navy carrier.

Comments: In my old age I am compiling a history of the RAF Sunderland squadrons in the Far East after WWII. We were based largely at Singapore but operated from Iwakuni, Japan, during the Korean War. This entry from my diary of 7 January 1954 may be of interest to VP2 veterans. "This morning we took `Xray' and got airborne for the second time this year. The trip was bitterly cold and was a fairly long fox. Off the SW corner of Korea we saw the task force element and a PBM and P2V searching for the missing P2V of VP2 which has only been operating from Iwakuni for a week or so having recently arrived from the States. Later we heard that two bodies have been picked up."

Comments: I was in VP-2 from late '54 til April of 1956. During this time we were not allowed to take any photos of our aircraft....hence, I have NO pictures of our plane, or other squadron planes. I'd sure appreciate any photos, either of SB-3,(I was Ist Radio) or any other boat of that vintage...thanks, John Harbin

Comments: I was in V.P.2 1952-1955. Reading these comments
and seeing the pictures brought back lots of memories. I was duty driver Jan, 4 1954 when we lost our first patrol.I knew most of the crew.
I had flown with that crew some stateside.
I have almost the same picture of SB5 when she slid off the runway in Kodiak.
