Comments: Seventy years ago yesterday Ensign Dwight Angell's plane (VP-22 P2V-5 BUAER 127744) was shot down by enemy fire. Seventy years ago today it was my mother's twenty-second birthday. Seventy years ago tomorrow my mother received word that Dwight, her husband of eight months, had crashed and was MIA. Dwight's plane had come under enemy fire and crashed in the Formosa Straights. He'd been picked up by a Coast Guard plane (PBM 5G BUAER 84738) but due to rough seas it had crashed upon take off. Dwight and 5 other Navy airmen didn't make it as well as 5 Coast Guard airmen. The Navy changed their records from MIA to KIA to clear up their records in 1954, but the truth is, he's still MIA, as well as the other men.
The Korean War: the "forgotten war." They are forgotten. Although found in the Korean War Veterans Memorial Honor Roll, they are still forgotten on the new Korean War Wall of Remembrance that was dedicated July 27, 2022. These eleven names weren't engraved, because their mission fell outside of the arbitrary definition that was drawn by the DOD in 2021. These specific men died for their country during war time, flying a reconnaissance mission for their country over enemy territory. The Coast Guard plane that picked them up were in enemy waters as well, taking fire during their rescue mission. Each one needs to be remembered. In addition, over 500 names that should be on the Wall, that need to be remembered, are not on it. There are well over 1,000 misspelled names already on the Wall. Families will have a difficult time finding their loved one's name due to the lack of diligence that was needed to put the names on correctly. Departments (DOI, DOD) are pointing their fingers at each other, likely making progress slow, but hopefully it will be in a forward motion. Please contact the DOD and let them know if you know of someone's name that isn't on it or that is misspelled. Time is passing quickly, and the men and women who were in the Korean War or were of that age are passing quickly too. Many of the older veterans that posted on this site earlier are no longer with us or are unable to post on this site anymore. "Lest we forget."

Happy Veteran's Day to all of you.
