Comments: Served '62-'63 in 168th Medical Battalion and 43rd MASH ("40-30" to the Korean personnel); was acting 43rd unit supply sargeant, and later "acting jack" of the 43rd linen/laundry. Remember a Spc.5 Paul Dudash, an equipment specialist, and a pharmacist, Spc/4 Marty Klinghoffer. SFC John Rota was NCOIC of medical supply, with Capt. Dante Chieu (sp?) 43rd medical supply OIC. Recall also an MD in the MASH, Capt. Kenneth Lowry. An incredible time serving there and with many excellent soldiers.

Comments: I was the 1SG for the 43d MASH during the deactivation in June of 97. we had a wonderful deactivation ceremony and a great MASH BASH, we had a parade field set up like the MASH program, Rosie’s bar ECT and yes Frank Burns, Maj Winchester, and Larry Gephardt showed up for all the fun. We hired a artist to paint a Lithograph for the deactivation of the 43d. There were 750 Lithographs printed of the painting and some were signed by Larry Gephardt, Frank Burns, and Maj Winchester.

Comments: I served with Sgt Jentz and Mst Sgt Chronister in the OR and with Capt. Becker(he reminds me of Alan Alda chracter in MASH) and Capt. Santos, a real human doctor. There was a Sgt in X-ray,last name Johnson, who hiked with me around the Mash Area. The two nurses in charge of the OR I worked with were nice, friendly and tough, they turned in surgeons who screwed up and you didn't always realize it but they watched your work and helped you without being over bearing. The young Korean technicians were Junior, Chae Jae Won and Quak, and they had beren with the Mash when it went to Pyongyang There were many others whose name I can't come up with right now. We also had a "hot lips" who was chased by one of the chopper pilots next door on the hill. If I come up with more names I will add them to this.

Comments: I WAS THE PLATOON LEADER OF THE 2ND PLATOON, 293RD GRAVES REGISTRATION CO. WE RECEIVED ALL THE DECEASED FROM ALL THE ALLIED PERSONNEL FROM THE 43RD. I INQUIRED A FEW MONTHS AGO OF THE GREAT PEOPLE WHO MAINTAIN THIS PROGRAM WHY THE 43 MASH WASN'T LISTED. TED WENT TO THE TROUBLE TO ADD THE 43RD AND I APPRECIATE THE TROUBLE HE WENT TO TO VERIFY IT'S EXISTENCE. I ALSO WANT TO SALUTE ALL THE MEDICAL PERSONELL AT THAT FACILIATY FOR THE WONDERFUL WORK THEY DID UNDER THE MOST DESTRESSFUL CONDITIONS.

I WENT DOWN TO THEIR MAKESHIFT OFFICERS CLUB A FEW TIMES BUT DID NOT FEEL RIGHT SINCE ALL THE PLATOON PERSONNEL COUD NOT JOIN ME. ANYWAY, THERE ARE SCORES OF KOREAN VETERANS LIVING TODAY DUE TO THE GREAT WORK THEY DID AND I AM GLAD TO SEE THEM LISTED WITH THE OTHER UNITS.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ON THIS PROGRAM.
