Comments: The 43rd was my first duty station out of medic school at Fort Sam. Because of the Pueblo incident and incursions of the North into South Korea, everyone in my class (except for about 10-20) was sent to Korea instead of Viet Nam. Remember well the bumpy truck ride to Camp Mosier; this just after getting a gamma globulin shot in each cheek. First assignment was second shift in the post-op intensive care ward. From there I worked in the lab and finally the Clinic/ER. I learned so much. The medical staff were willing to teach you what ever you wanted to learn. My time in Korea was the best time I had in the service. I had a lot of friends, both enlisted and officer; although the latter was elusively the medical staff. Can only remember two names: Gus Pappas and 'Nick' Bickner. Both from Detroit. Which is one big reason why I ended up in Michigan. Would love to hear from anyone stationed there in '69.

Comments: I was at the 43rd from Spring of '72 to Spring of '73 as OR Tech and also worked in the ER. It was an experience that has had no comparrison in my life. The TV series, MASH, began while I was there and for some time I corresponded with their publicist, Will Fowler, whom I told about Rosie's. The rest, as they say, is history. That's my claim to fame. I sent Will some pictures and he wrote back saying that Ron Gackle held his pipe "like a rectal thermometer." My best friend was a Nusre Anesthetist named Lt.Richard "OJ" Ojeda, from the hospital in Yongsan. I would appreciate emails from any who remember me. Thanks, Mike Proctor

Now with only time on my hands, it is my desire to return to the Land of the Morning Calm soon and retrieve that time capsule that we buried at that last formation(Camp Mosier),so that those memories may also be preserved forever. Comments: When both the 7th and 2nd ID's were in Korea, the 43rd was at Camp Moser, Ouijongbu. It provided surgical care to soldiers of 2nd ID from Camp Casey. 121 at Camp Market provided care to 7th ID soldiers from western corridor. Seoul Army Hospital provided care to hospitals in the Yongsan area.
After the 7th division left Korea there was realignment of the hospitals. 121 EVAC moved from Bupyong, camp Market (ascom City ) to Yongsan. IN Yongsan it remained the 121 but was also called the Seoul Community hospital and was the main hospital for USFK. 43rd left Cmp Moser and moved to Hialeah in Pusan. the 11th Evac in Pusan was deactivated as the was 9th evac in Taegu.
The 43rd moved to Camp Humphreys in about 1983 so it could be "closer to the action" should a conflict break out. The 545th dispensary moved from Hump to Hialeah at the same time.
In about 1986-8 time frame the MASH acquired the full ISO units and Temper Tents and stopped being a "tent unit" It was finally deactivacted in about 1996-7 time frame leaving only the 121 Hospital as the only Hospital on the ROK. It was quite a sad time.
I remember the unit mascot, Shitter, a kaegogi dog who moved with the unit from Moser to Hialeah. After the move to Hialeah the unit became more of a clinic and caretaker of the MASH equipment. Great memories.. Thanks all for your contributions. Please add any unit history that you remember.. Thanks all.

Comments: I served at the 43 MASH from 1955 to 1957. I recognized the place
immediately when I saw the movie. Never have been able to reconnect
with any of the guys who were there in those days. Anybody remember
CWO WR Tubbs. Looking especially for any lore about him for his
daughter.

Comments: I was the 168 Med Bn (AS) Commander from 1995-1997. I was present at the 43rd MASH deactivation ceremony, and sat just behind Mr. Larry Linnville (Dr. Frank Burns in the TV show). It was a great, but sad occasion. Our Charlie Co assumed the health care mission from the 43rd. I remember you, 1SGT Hall, and COL Maul, and all the great soldier medics in the 43rd MASH.
