Comments: Usually 13 or 14 of us on the site, 2 huts, a 2-holer, our
radio-teletype truck and the other guy's VHF hut. Had to drive
9 miles twice a day to eat with the 38th Engineers.
On one occasion, somebody cut through our concertina wire fence
during the night and stole 2 of our 3 duplex antenna poles.
We were about 9 miles from the DMZ. Made us a bit nervous as
the ROK army had set up twin 50's on a hill just above our
compound with orders to destroy our compound in case we
were over run.
Many of us returning from Korea were stationed at Ft. Carson,
Co but I never met up again with any of the guys I knew in
Korea.
Al Gore hadn't yet invented the internet...

I am trying to reach anyone who was in Camp Baker or
knew my husband Thomas Shine from Sept 1969 thru
April 1970. He passed in 2002 and I
have been trying for several years now for dependent
compensation and cannot prove he was in the DMZ zone
during his tour of duty. I was told that Camp Baker
in Yondongpo was 21 miles outside the DMZ and
therefore I would have to prove through veteran
statements that he had been in or traveled through
the DMZ.

I read some write ups referring to rat patrols. We did not have any that I can recall but we did have rats, lice, VD, and a bad reputation. I remember that Wire Co. was refered to by the North Korean propaganda that was broken down and written up at the COMCENTER where I worked. Great memories.

We thought we would be extended past our 13 month tour because of the Pueblo incident, but we weren't. Some of the guys I remember are Sgt. Wilson, Malone, Sparks, Rhiel, Shawgo, Maurer, Hackney, Chaves, Robinson, Wilhite, Sorrell, Schroeder, Rothenberger, Glass, Waller and a guy we called "Miles".

Comments: I was stationed at Camp Coiner late 1959-1960. Mos was 053.2 Radio\Radio Teletype operator. Worked most of the time at MARS radio AB4USA at Coiner.....the station also carried amatuer call sign HL9KT. NCO in charge was Fred Duval. Station hut was located opposite the MP huts. All of my lists and photos of personnel were lost shortly after my return to the ZI. Would like to hear from other ops who were stationed there during 1960.
