Is there any way to correct these and add more personal information? Thank you. I've had problems with my e-mail so you might have write or call.

Comments: I entered information about my husband, Joseph A. Machann, Jr. who died in Korea at the age of 19. I was 18. We were childhood sweethearts and had married in May 1950. He died June 1951. His whole Marine company out of Hastings, Nebraska was eventually killed. After 50 years his death still hurts - because we didn't learn anything - or I should say the government didn't learn anything. They killed our young men for nothing!

Comments: Korea is a very familiar place to me. I served in the post World War II Army of Occupation of South Korea from 1946 to 1948. At that time, I served in the following units. 1st: 754 Tank BN, located at Su-Saik, south of Seoul. 2nd: 58th Mechanized Cav Recon Group, Su Saik and Munsan, located on the edge of the Munsan River, near Pammunjon. 3rd: Kaesong (now part of North Korea) and 4th: Onjin, which was a peninsula of South Korea (now in North Korea's hands.) There were three ways to get to Onjin. Sea, Air or Land. We always had to travel via land in convoys, and had to pass through the capitol of North Korea (Pyongyang), escorted by Russian soldiers. Kaesong was a beautiful, quaint old oriental city. Somewhat similar to Kyoto, Japan. I was very sad to see it fall into the hands of North Korea.

I returned to Korea September 15th, 1950 and made the invasion of Inchon. At that time, I was a United States Marine Reservist, serving on active duty with Weapons Company, "Heavy Water Cooled Machine Gun Platoon," 2nd BN, 1st Mar Regt, 1st Mar Div FMF. I was never sent to Marine Corps "Boot Camp," but rather, was sent directly into combat as a reserve called to active duty. Before the Wonson Operation, I was pulled out of Machine Guns and placed in the S-2 Section (H and S Co.) as a Korean Interpreter because of the knowledge of the language I had acquired while with the Occupation Forces.

We went on into Seoul and beyond, then pulled back and boarded the USNS Noble and headed for Wonson. After two weeks of "Operation Yo Yo" floating up and down the coast waiting for the mines to be cleared, we then went on up to Koto-ri in the Chosin Reservoir Operation.

I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who either served with any of the Army units above between 1946-1948, and I would like to hear from anyone from D-2-1, WPNS-2-1, OR H and S (S-2 Section) 2-1, First Marine Division. We all have some interesting stories to share.

Each year, I arrange for special church services for the survivors of the Chosin Reservoir. For 1998 the services were held at the Crystal Cathedral, Garden Grove, CA and was televised not only nationwide, but worldwide.
