Comments: My uncle, Clifford Roger Silliman, was a member of the 15th AAF in Italy when he was promoted to Major. After joining the AF he flew to Europe with the second P-38 fighter group to enter combat. He was a maintenance officer and his theatre ribbons bears seven stars to indicate his participation in the air offensive over Europe, the French-Morocco campaign, the Tunisian and Sicilian campaigns, the Foggia-Naples and Rome-Arno campaigns, and the invasion of Southern France. In November 1942 he flew to North Africa from England to take part in the North African invasion, but his plane didn't make. He recalled his vivid memory of "ditching the plane" in the Atlantic and spending several hours on a raft. Two weeks in the Libyan Desert was an experience he wouldn't like to repeat though a personal diary he kept showed that they also had a good time in all of the local communities that they could find. After the war and his discharge from the Army Air Corps, Cliff joined the Air Force and after spending some time in Japan was put in charge of the multi-million dollar design and construction of the Far East Air Forces Base on Guam. From 1957 to 1961 he was responsible for the development, construction, testing and acquisition of the ground segment of the hardened Titan Ballistic Missile system. He ended his career in the mid-60s as Chief, Technical Requirements and Standards Office, Space and Missile Systems Organization. He then went to work with TRW Systems and the final chapter was with ITT_FEC Western Test Range Division where he was responsible for FEC's total-quality control program. Roger, as he was known to his closest friends, retired finally in February 2019 just short of his 99th birthday. I welcome any and all communication via my email.

for any info or any person that may have known him. I have been
unable to locate information on his plane or his crew. He flew
out of Foggia, Italy from 1943 to 1944.
A lot of military records were lost in a fire in St. Louis and I
am working to restore my dad's. I have found Oct, 1944 15th AAF
Organizational Chart, general orders for some of his missions
and medals, a Chronological history of the Heavy BG 15th AAF
WWII Italy, 1943-45 that shows the tail art for each squadron
and maps/mission information. I plan on adding this to a
facebook page I have started so the information will be
available for everyone in one place.
Please contact me to exchange information!!

Comments:
I am trying to reconstruct my fathers military service for
additional information to forward to the National Personnel
Records Center and ultimately the Department Of Veterans Affairs
to be able to track down my fathers service number and date of
discharge so a DD 214 can be generated. Unfortunately, my
fathers service records were destroyed at the records center in
St. Louis during a fire July 12, 1973. The NPRC has requested
more information from me and at this point, all I have is
historical information from family members as dad passed away
Oct 1996 and my mother, Leta Larsen, has Alzheimer's. Whatever
paperwork he had in relation to his time in the service has been
lost. Its important to me to find out what I can to be able to
submit a request for a benefit for mothers continued care.
Additionally, I have contacted Barksdale AFB through the FOIA
point of contact but they were not able to help me.
My father, Philip Arthur Larsen, (Phil) enlisted as a
volunteer in Portland Oregon on Dec 27, 1950. He was trained as
a CFC Gunner, Center Fire Control Gunner, and after completion
of his training was assigned to Barksdale AFB for the duration
of his 4 year enlistment. I know he was involved with B29
aircraft and was also part of the crews that took several of
these aircraft to Davis-Monthan for storage when they began
phasing these aircraft out in place of the B52.
Doing research online I have found several possible units...I
am sorry, I am not familiar with Air Force unit structures...but
would it be possible he could have been assigned to 307th, 301st
or the 376th Bombardment Wing?
What I need for the National Personnel Records Center is a
Squadron, Group and Wing. Service number and Date of Discharge
would be extremely helpful as well but any information would be
appreciated. Place of separation would have to have been
Barksdale AFB which is also required information for the Records
Center. Realistically, all I am trying to figure out at this
point is what unit or wing he may have been assigned to.
Most of all, if you have any suggestions to help me in my
research, I would be grateful.
And if there is anything else that I can provide, please
contact me.
Thank you,

The 301st B.Wg deployed to RAF Scampton from October
1948 to January 1949 with three squadrons, the 32nd-yellow, 352nd- red and 353rd-blue, all aircraft wearing 8th AF " Triangle V " tail markings.
During May-Nov,1950 a second visit was made .this time to RAF Lakenheath,Sculthorpe and Bassingbourne.
The aircraft carried " Square A " tail codes and the squadrons were, 32nd-orange, 352nd-green, 353rd-blue and the 301st ARSq-red and white.
Can any one please assist me with information /details of the deployments (Exercises etc ), also pictures /photos of the aircraft as these will also help me with my artwork for the book. Anything loaned to me will be returned to the rightful owner.
I will be most grateful for any possible help.

Didn't serve during the Korean war but hope I can make contact with some of my buddies from my Lockbourne days. As someone else said on the site. Had a lot of good times, hope we did some good things, and appreciate just living the SAC experience and consider the one time I me Gen Lemay to be, next to my wife and kids, the most outstanding experience of my life. Think it's pretty stupid to change SAC's name but then they didn't ask me, and probably wouldn't have listened if I did say it was stupid, so I'll just remember the good people and mission the general took us all on.
Served in the Air Intelligence section under base ops from late 1956, still remember how cold it was when I reported from Texas, until late 1958. I was then transfered, with a change of AFSC to the new managmetn system Lemay put in, to Griffis AFB NY up by Syracuse to start the B-52 wing that was moved there.
Not trying to be "Hokey" about it but I really do want to say thanks to all the guys who were with the 301st before me. They allowed me to serve without being in a "shooting" war.

Comments: Have been looking for Unit emblems but have found none so far.
Keywords: Happy to find the bulletin board and a posting from ECM. Was assigned as PCS to Barksdale 52 to 54. M/SGT. Wirt was NCOIC initially with no OIC, Wirt had been crew chief in WW II for a 2nd. AF Staff officer, and they played golf together on weekends.
Had a 6 month TDY to the 376th. at Kadena during the last 6 months of the War, and managed to turn it into 9 months. Was ECM Wing tech. and later NCOIC. Rank was S/SGT. at the time.
Got back to Barksdale in 53, just in time for the conversion from B-29/50 to KC97's and B-47's.
Due to Far East tour missed going TDY to England, and discharge date missed TDY to Africa.
