Comments: My father, Sam Boleware, was part of the original crew of the USS Toledo when it was commissioned in 1946. He took part in the world cruise in 1947 and was transferred to the USS Columbus at the end of 1947 when the Toledo was docked in Long Beach. Does anybody remember him?
Update 14 Feb 2004 from Cindy:
I also wanted to update my posting to report my father's death 18 months ago. I
enjoyed hearing from him about his adventures on the USS Toledo and treasure
the photos he gave me. I've also enjoyed corresponding with other alumni of
the ship, but want people to know that my father's not here to correspond
with them anymore.

Comments: I'm looking for anyone who served with my father LEE A LAZAN. He was a Sgt. in the Marine Corps assigned to the Toledo. Please e-mail my wife and I if you have any information or knowledge of him. I have a photo of the Marine Detachment aboard the Toledo however everyone is in there dress uniform so I don't see any names. It's real important to us that we find one of his fellow shipmates. He was married to his first wife at the time and had a little girl in Philadelphia. He was served divorce papers while aboard and we have been trying to locate my sister for the past five years. Any help that you could provide would mean a great deal to us.
I've learne
d a lot about my father through this search and I would like to learn more.
Thank you,
Lee A. Lazan Jr.

Comments: My son went aboard the ship when it was being cut up for scrap in Long Beach. He brought back the upper part of the ddo to the First Sergeant's Office. I have had it in my garage for 25 years. I donated it to the Marine recruiting office in Toledo, Ohio. I will bring it to the San Antonio reunion in the first wek of October, before sending it to Toledo.

Comments: My father has only a few momentos from his days on the Toledo. I wish I could remember the years better, but I believe he was aboard at least from 50-53. Anyway, if anyone remembers a Billy Ray Rayburn, I would simply love to relay any phone numbers his way (he now lives in Idaho). I keep looking for books or anything with photos of the ship. If anyone knows where I can get some, I'd love to surprise him with a gift. Hope this message gets out to someone in the know.
Thanks much!
